1975-02-12 - Plan Commission - Minutes WORKSHOP SESSION BUFFALO GROVE PLAN COMMISSION Village Center February 12 , 1975 Chairman Carl Genrich called the meeting to order at 8 : 15 p.m. , February 12 , 1975, in the Municipal Building, g. 50 Raupp Blvd. Commissioners Present: Chairman Genrich Mr. Mendenhall Mr. Keister Mr. Shields Mr. Goldspiel Mr. Jacobs Commissioners Absent: Mr. Haarr Mr. Gamm Mr. Harris Also Present: Mr. Jerry Driscoll Mr. Dan Larson Mrs. Dorothy Berth Mr. Driscoll stated that this meeting was called for the purpose of updating rather than reporting on the Village Center. Mr. Genrich stated that the consultant will be meeting with the Village early in March to report on the first phase of the Village Center which is data gathering. The next phase will be developing three alternative plans. Mr. Genrich passed out a list of questions regarding the Community and Village Center and asked the members of the Plan Commission and others in attendance to respond to these questions in order to obtain some citizen input on the Village Center. The majority of those in attendance felt the Village Center should contain an open area without vehicular traffic where people could congregate and that it should include a recreation center or someplace for the young people of the Community. Mr. Jacobs stated that he thought a central theme should be developed for Buffalo Grove and expanded upon. Others Plan Commission Page 2 2/12/75 in the discussion group agreed with this. It was suggested that this theme be carried over into the architecture of the buildings throughout Buffalo Grove. Mr. Keister and several other people stated that they did not want the Village Center to be strictly commercial. It should be a combination of commercial, civic and governmental areas and include a library, post office and theater. Mr. Larson stated that whenever the Village Center is developed it should have provisions made for the future. Some area should be set aside for permanent open space so that people that live in Buffalo Grove 15 years from now would have something to work with. Mr. Jacobs acquire inquired how the Village would the land q g for the Village Center. Mr. Larson responded that it could be acquired through revenue bonds, private developer or condemning. The total plan in area is about 200 acres and the core area (Village Center) is bordered by Buffalo Grove Road on the west, Rt. 83 on the east and Lake-Cook Road on the south.
