2015-04-08 - Arts Commission - Minutes 04/8/2015 MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE ARTS COMMISSION OF THE VILLAGE OF BUFFALO GROVE HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS, 50 RAUPP BOULEVARD, BUFFALO GROVE, ILLINOIS ON WEDNESDAY, APRIL 8, 2015 Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM by Chairman Elliott Hartstein Approval of Minutes A. Approval of the March 11, 2015 Minutes of the Buffalo Grove Arts Commissions (Elliott Hartstein) RESULT: APPROVED [UNANIMOUS] MOVER: Fran Sachs, Chairman SECONDER: Sharon Borstein, Commissioner AYES: Weissman, Gibson, Ginsberg, Greenberg, Herman, Schneider, Borstein, Nudelman, Sachs ABSENT: Steve Bulmash, Bonnie Gold, Gayle Pervos Old Business A. Discussion Regarding the Contract Status with Howard Allan Events (Elliott Hartstein) Staff provided an update on the contract status of Howard Allan Events. Upon the direction of the Commission, Village staff reached out to Howard Allan Events. Mr. Allan verbally agreed to changing the contract start date to 2016 as well as providing the Arts Commission with pro bono advice. He is currently reviewing the contract updates with his lawyer. B. Discussion Regarding the Status of the Home Grown Art Event (Elliott Hartstein) Commissioner Bernstein provided an update to the status of the Home Grown Arts Event. She stated that two calls for artists went out with only 10.5 of the anticipated 30 booths being filled. The commission discussed, that due to the low response rate that the event should be retooled and postponed until the fall. Lynn Schneider proposed that the event could be held in conjunction with the BG Singer's fall concert. A motion was made by Sharon Borstein and seconded Fred Weissman that "The Home Grown Art Event be postponed until the Fall of 2015." Lynn Schneider, stated that she would reach out to the artists to inform them of the cancellation. Draft Band Survey Presentation (Alan Nudelman) Alan Nudelman provided an overview of the survey development process. Staff and Chairman Hartstein communicated that the survey is a valuable tool to improve communication and evaluation. Upon their review the commission requested that some of the questions be amended to be more specific as well as additional questions be 04/8/2015 added to the survey. Lynn Schneider moved that the survey be tabled until the Band Board can give their input. The motion was seconded by Fred Weissman. Landscaping &Textile Arts Contest Rules and Regulations (Alan Nudelman) Alan Nudelman gave overview of the Landscaping and Textile contest. The commission recommended that each contest rules be simplified and that energy be focused on the landscaping contest. Staff recommend that the rules be reviewed by the Village Manager's Office and the Legal Department. Fred Weissman moved that this discussion be tabled until the next meeting so that the commissions recommendations be reflected. Alan Nudelman seconded the motion. Band Concert Update (Elliott Hartstein) Alan Nudelman announced that the Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band was having their annual spring concert with the Artist League on May 2, 2015. He requested help from the members of the commission taking tickets tickets as well as managing the house. Chairiman Hartstien requested that President Elect Sussman be present to open the concert. Village Report A. Approval to Purchase Name Tags from Crown Trophy (Elliott Hartstein) Staff provided the commission a quote of$119.00 from Crown Trophy for name tags. Sandy Greenberg made a motion to purchase the name tags.
