Arts Commission - Regular Meeting - Apr 13, 2016 7:00 PM RESULT: ACCEPTED [UNANIMOUS] MOVER: Sharon Borstein, Commissioner SECONDER: Sandy Greenberg, Commissioner AYES: Greenberg, Herman, Schneider, Borstein, Sachs ABSENT: Fred Weissman, Steve Bulmash, Shari Ginsberg, Jessica Liefer Old Business Dance Festival Update Roman Mazur of MAZURDANCE was in attendance to provide the commission with a preliminary agenda of his proposed international festival. The commission decided to form a committee to develop a list of questions for Mr. Mazur. He went on to invite all the commissioners to an upcoming performance of the dance company during Memorial Day weekend. Event Planning Subcommittee Report The Event Planning Subcommittee reported on the events of their last meeting where they answered the questions that were sent by Ivan Carlson. These answers were forwarded to Ivan Carlson by staff. Textile Arts Contest Update Sharon announced the winners of the contest. The commission agreed that once the winners were notified that an announcement will go out over social media as well as the winners will be recognized at an upcoming Village Board Meeting. 501c3 Update Chairman Hartstein and Trustee Weidenfeld provided an overview of the presentation that was made at the previous Committee of the Whole meeting. The commission was receptive to and approved of the proposed method of incorporation for the 501 c3. Skokie Sculpture Garden Update The trip is scheduled for June 26 at 1:00pm. Landscaping Contest Update Q Packet Pg. 2 2.A 05/11/2016 A press release was sent out and it was promoted over social media. Halloween Lawn Decorating Contest Update The contest was announced in the Landscaping Contest release. New Business Recommendations and Approval of a 2017 Calendar Art Competition The commission agreed upon sponsoring the 2017 Calendar Art Competition. N d Recommendations and Approval of a Window Painting Contest/ Possible c Election Year Related Public Art Activity 0 The commission discussed the possibility of a election/ get out the vote event that incorporates 'R the arts. This event could be centered around window painting, lamp post banners, or decorated o sculptures. The commission requested that staff consult the Village Manager's office as well as a the Village Attorney to the feasibility of this event. a Village Report Band Report The commission commented on the success of the most recent band concert.
