SUBJECT: THE ARBORETUM GOLF COURSE FACILITIES
USE ANALYSIS & MASTER PLANNING - SESSION 1
On February 16, 1999, the Village of Buffalo Grove entered into a contract with Groundwork, Inc. to
assist in the development of a use analysis and master planning for the Arboretum Golf Course facilities.
As you know, the Arboretum Golf Course has been developed around the exiting landscaping company
buildings and we have reached a point in play development where we can examine options for expansion.
This is the first of four working sessions which are planned for the months of February, March, April and
June, to complete a use analysis and master planning exercise. The first session, on February 22, really
is a brain storming session and will be led by Mr. John Green for the purpose of the development of a
potential use list for the proposed clubhouse and maintenance facilities, and anticipated related
redevelopment.
Session 2, which is scheduled for March 22, will focus on prioritization from items identified at the first
session. Our third session, now scheduled for April 26, will be to develop specific recommendations and
basic cost parameters for the priority development, and session 4 on June 14, will conclude with a
presentation of a site master plan. At that point, financial planning and design development would be the
logical next steps to this exercise.
If we are successful and proceed to a redevelopment of the Arboretum facilities, we would hope to have
design development completed and bidding in December, 1999 with temporary facilities and construction
through the year 2000, completing the facility in late 2000 and fully completed for the 2001 season. As
previously discussed with the Board, we will use a Committee of the Whole structure so that each Board
Member can be fully involved in this process. I have also requested additional staff participation in the
Committee of the Whole from the Director of Golf Operations, the Village Planner, the Director of
Finance, the Village Engineer and myself. We look forward to a good working session on the 22nd.
