Approval of Minutes, 11/9/05 Motion by Barbara Herman, second by Gayle Pervos. Motion carried. Chair Report Linda indicated that she prepared the 2005 annual report of the Arts Commission for the Village Board. The report will be provided to the Board in January, 2006. Included with the report will be the attendance record for Commissioners; every Commissioner of the Village is asked to maintain a 75% attendance rate at meetings. The Village President will be re-appointing members at the December 19, 2005 Board meeting. Commissioners Reports No report. Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band Bonnie Gold reported that the Band has finished their series of 4 holiday concerts at local churches; these were very successful. The band played "The Nutcracker' for the first time, and found it challenging and stimulating. It was also announced that the BGSB was awarded another grant from the Illinois Arts Commission. Kudos to the Band! Limelight Cafe As approved by the AC at the last meeting, Jacob Lipp, one of the teen members of a band performing at Limelight, was awarded an honorarium for his efforts in setting up and maintaining the sound and lighting equipment. Fred Weissman has researched portable lighting systems to be purchased by this Commission for use at Limelight. Two of these systems will probably be required for the performances. He has received a good price quote from Sam Ash Music on the selected equipment and will be following up with the manager at Sam Ash. Community Calendar Program Susan reported that the Village has sold or traded 9 sponsorships as part of the program (5, $250 sponsorships; 3, $2,000 sponsorships; and 1, $3000 sponsorship). TeamCo International has agreed to print 25,000 copies of the calendar in 4 color in exchange for the Supreme sponsorship which offers them the back page of the calendar for advertisement. Evan Hill of Evan Hill Design has agreed to design the calendar in exchange for a $2,000 Gold sponsorship. $250 sponsorships are still needed! The Commission requested that the deadline for submission of these sponsorships be extended from December 16th. Commission members will follow up on those businesses already contacted that asked for a follow-up after the first of the year. National Anthem Project The Village Board approved a Proclamation as part of the National Anthem Project. As part of the Proclamation, the Village President and Board of Trustees endorse the National Anthem to be performed and promoted at all community events and they encourage all citizens to participate in this program. Fred Weissman will be editing the recording of the Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band playing the National Anthem, and will be producing a CD and appropriate label. Letters and a CD will be mailed to all schools and the libraries, as well as the Park District and local nursing/retirement homes promoting the program in 2006. New Business Sculpture for Buffalo Grove. The Commission discussed the proposal by Daryoush Yavarinejad, sculptor and Buffalo Grove resident. More information is needed as the sculptor's offer and requirements were not clear; and the booklet presented as representative of his work appeared to list other sculptors' names. Concern was expressed regarding giving a local artist financial help, as this would set a precedent which had not previously existed for this Commission. An alternative proposal was suggested which could allow local artists to display their work on Village campus to help get them exposure. These works could then be purchased by anyone. This proposal was suggested with no further action taken. Village 50-Year Birthday Celebration Linda Rosen proposed that the Arts Commission become a partner with this Committee in order to plan a Performing Arts Talent evening. The vision is to invite local talent (children's chorus, orchestras, etc.) to perform at Stevenson High School as part of this celebration. This could also be a fundraiser for the Arts Commission. Susan, staff liaison, suggested that a member of this Commission serve on the 50-year birthday committee. Village Report No report. Meeting Schedule The next meeting will be held on January 11, 2006. AC meetings are typically held on the second Wednesday of each month. Meetings will be held at Village Hall, second floor conference room, unless noted. Thank you — The meeting concluded at 7:41 p.m. by a motion to adjourn from Commissioner Alaynick and seconded by Commissioner Gold. Respectfully Submitted, Susan Levy Office of the Village Manager cc: Jeff Braiman, Trustee Liaison Bruce Kahn, Trustee Liaison
