A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING A SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL GRANT APPLICATION
WHEREAS, the Village of Buffalo Grove is a Home Rule Unit pursuant to the Illinois Constitution
of 1970; and,
WHEREAS,the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program is a federally funded program administered
in Illinois by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT); and
WHEREAS, the Village of Buffalo Grove, with support from local School Districts, is applying for
funds through IDOT from the SRTS program to construct certain infrastructure projects throughout the
Village, including two pedestrian crosswalks,rapid rectangular flashing beacons and signage to enable and
encourage children to safely walk and bike to school; and
WHEREAS,IDOT requires a formal commitment from the public agency that will be receiving these
funds and will be implementing and maintaining these infrastructure projects.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED,that the Village has authorized Dane Bragg,Village Manager,
to act as agent on behalf of the Village to request Safe Routes to School funding,to act as the applicant's
agent during the project development, and to sign a project agreement upon receipt of a funding award;
and
BE IT FURTHRER RESOLVED THAT, the Village attests to the existence of, and commits to, the
funds necessary to carry out the project, including engineering design and construction, permit fees,
administration costs, and cost overruns; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT, the Village commits to owning, operating, funding, and
implementing a maintenance program over the design life of the facilities constructed with SRTS funding.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT, by the Village President and Board of Trustees of the Village of
Buffalo Grove, Cook and Lake Counties, Illinois, as follows:
Section 1: The Safe Routes to School Application and financial commitment, is hereby approved.
Section 2; The Village Manager is authorized and directed to execute the SRTS Grant Application.
