1997-11-18 - Electrical Commission - Minutes Board or Commission: ❑ Electrical Commission Document Type: ❑Agenda 0 Minutes Meeting Date: 11/18/97 Type of Meeting: ❑ Regular Meeting ELECTRICAL COMMISSION VILLAGE OF BUFFALO GROVE REGULAR MEETING November 18, 1997 The meeting was called to order by Donald Stumbris,Ex-Officio Chairman,on Tuesday,November 18, 1997, at 6:30 p.m.,in the Buffalo Grove Village Hall,Lower Level, 50 Raupp Boulevard,Buffalo Grove,Illinois. In attendance were: Ron Hackett, Commissioner Wayne Kowalski, Commissioner John Mackey, Commissioner Harold Kabb, Commissioner Donald Stumbris,Ex-Officio Chairman Buffalo Grove Fire Chief Tom Allenspach and Deputy Fire Marshall Troy Shannon made a presentation to the Electrical Commission requesting that all new residential electrical services,which would include new construction and/or service changes,include an external service disconnect. The minutes of the meeting of August 19, 1997,were read and approved. The meetings scheduled for 1998 are as as follows: February 17, 1998 Alcott Center May 19, 1996 Village Hall August 18, 1998 Alcott Center November 17, 1998 Village Hall A change to code which would allow aluminum wire(Size AWG 4 6 or larger)to be used or feeders was reviewed in response to a presentation made at the last meeting. A vote was taken to approve. The result of the vote was: 3 Against -1 For -1 Abstained-Proposal rejected. A change to code which would allow Type MC cable to be used in residential and commercial installations, was reviewed and discussed. This motion was tabled to a future date. A presentation by Local 134,Apprentice Program,will be made at the next meeting, and will include a discussion on MC cable. A discussion was held on the presentation made by the Buffalo Grove Fire Department was held regarding the outdoor disconnects for residential installations. A vote was taken to table this item until further investigation is performed. The following items were identified as areas to be investigated. Cost to homeowners. How it affects decks and patios What factors went into other communities adopting this requirement Integrals of installation over time Routing of ground Burden of inspection and opportunity for errors Bonding of neutral bus Ability of homeowner to reset outdoor breaker when nuisance tripped,if cover is locked Security The next meeting will be held Tuesday,February 19, 1998, at Alcott School, at which time electrical registration testing will be conducted.
