Welcome & Introductions
The members introduced themselves and explained why they were interested in joining the Arts
Commission. The Commission members varied in their artistic talents — including vocals, instrumentalists,
record company administrators, educators—yet, all shared the common interest of arts in the community.
Trustee Jeff Braiman and Linda Rosen provided background on the first community Arts Commission. Jeff
explained that the role of the newly formed Arts Commission would be to work with the Park District and
other community groups and share information as appropriate. Lynne explained the Chamber's interest in
an arts component within the community.
Resolution Establishing the Arts Commission
It was explained that the Commission was approved by the Village Board for a period of one year. The
Resolution was reviewed in detail and an overview of the Commission objectives was provided.
Building a Mission Statement
The Commission Members worked together to create the following Mission Statement:
To draw upon the diversity and artistic talent
within the Buffalo Grove community
and to promote a broad spectrum of the Arts
which will serve to enrich our Village.
Meeting Schedule
Meetings will be held once per month, 6:00 p.m., on Wednesdays. Sub-committees may be formed and
research conducted, then the findings would be shared with the entire Commission at the regularly
scheduled monthly meeting.
If members are not able to attend a meeting, they should contact Ghida Sahyouni at the Village. Contact
numbers are detailed on the attached member list.
All meetings will be held at Village Hall, lower level conference room, starting at 6:00 p.m. The next meeting
will be held:
. Wednesday, 10/18/2000
Next Steps
Everyone was asked to think of projects and programs that they wanted the Commission to pursue.
Members were asked to review the components identified in the Resolution that may serve as a guide to
establishing a list of objectives.
In 1995, the Village conducted a workshop and discussed the future of Buffalo Grove "cultural arts".
Attached is a copy of the minutes from the Blue Ribbon Committee on the Performing Arts. Also included is
an article that Linda Rosen wanted to share with the group. The article, Stage Whispers by Jonathan
Abarbanel, was featured in North Shore magazine in July, 2000.
The meeting concluded at 7:10 p.m. Linda thanked the members for their hard work and attendance.
Respectfully Submitted,
