Chair Report
Linda provided an overview of the Village Board meeting whereby all Commission, Committee and
Board Annual Reports were presented. In September, 2001, the three new Commissions will be
presented to the Village Board to determine if they should be adopted by Ordinance.
Commissioner Reports
Year 2002 Calendar to highlight the Buffaloes on Parade. Lynne was provided with calendars from
other municipalities and called to determine how many calendars are created, the cost of the
project, and so forth; see attached report.
Lynne will obtain a cost estimate for full size and half-size calendars; 5,000 and 10,000 copies.
VILLAGE REPORT
Buffaloes on Parade Program
Ghida advised the Commission that twenty (20) businesses have either sent their checks
confirming their participation in the program or returned their survey forms and indicated that
payment is forthcoming.
The first shipment of the buffaloes is expected on Friday, April 27, 2001. The second shipment will
be two to three weeks thereafter. The Village will contact the respective businesses appropriately.
To date, three companies plan to auction their buffalo. Ghida will retain an auctioneer; it was
suggested that Long Grove be contacted since they coordinated a successful auction for their
Moose on Parade.
Promotion events:
Vote for your favorite buffalo — coordinate the contest on the Village's web site.
Auction at Buffalo Grove Days.
Photo Contest—open to all Buffalo Grove residents. Ghida will contact Moto Photo and other
photo finishing businesses and determine if they would be interested in donating the grand prize
for the contest. The winner will be announced during Buffalo Grove Days, prior to the auction.
Letter to restaurants —encourage involvement in the program by providing specials on their
menus associated with the Buffalo theme. For instance, offer Buffalo chips or a Buffalo burger,
obtain items such as key chains and pens with a Buffalo logo and distribute as desired. All
businesses that participate in the buffalo theme program are encouraged to contact the Village and
their program or service will be detailed in the Village newsletter and other Village media.
Impose images of the Buffaloes on the Village's web site, channel 6, and other locations
throughout the community.
Buffalo Boulevard — provide sign above Raupp Boulevard.
Photo opportunity— During Buffalo Grove Days weekend, offer a program whereby interested
individuals would be able to get a Polaroid photo with a Buffalo. The Village would supply the film
for the program, no more than $200. Arts Commission members would volunteer to take the
photographs. There would be no charge for the photo opportunity; however all donations received
would benefit a local charity. The charity will be determined at the next meeting.
Contact radio stations serving the Buffalo Grove area and encourage them to promote the
program.
Vehicle Sticker Design Contest.
A great deal of promotion has been conducted for the Vehicle Sticker Design Contest and there
have been minimal entries received. The Village has contacted the school via letters to the
Districts, a letter to each principal, a-mails to the principals, calls to the school secretaries; other
promotion included the Village newsletter, channel 6, press releases, the Village marquee; flyers to
the Park District, libraries, and more.
Community Band
Ghida distributed a spreadsheet detailing results of the Community Band survey. The greatest
response was from the Village's web site, followed by the Village newsletter.
The Commission agreed to extend an invitation to Howard Green to attend the next meeting.
Relay for Life. Everyone was invited to join the Village's Relay Team to benefit the American
Cancer Society. A flyer promoting the event was distributed to the Commission.
