Communication. It was agreed that Howard Green should not include the entire Commission on
any e-mail communication relating to the Buffalo Grove Symphonic Board. Ghida will contact
Howard and advise him to send all communication to Ilene and copy to Linda, Fred, and Ghida.
Ilene will report on Band issues to the Arts Commission on a monthly basis, and via e-mail as
needed.
Report from Commission Band. Ilene reported on a number of issues that were discussed at the
Band Board meeting:
a) Creation of CDs for sale at performances
b) Sponsorship
c) Performance
First Performance. Scheduled for Sunday, April 28, 2002 beginning at 7:00 p.m. A two-hour
performance will be coordinated.
Linda had suggested that Woodlawn Middle School perform prior to the Buffalo Grove Symphonic
Band performance in April. The band at their last meeting agreed to allow the students to perform
during intermission; plus other stipulations were offered. The Commission decided not to pursue
a partnership with a local school at this time.
Practices. Practices have been extremely successful - the group plays outstanding.
Sponsorship. Ghida sent letters to all business participants of the Buffaloes on Parade Program.
Commissioners were encouraged to follow-up with telephone calls to these business contacts. A
letter to every business with a license will be mailed within the next two weeks. Ilene will share
the Buffaloes on Parade business partners so band members can follow-up and call the business
representatives. Information about sponsorship, "Band Aides" will also be included in the
following:
✓ Winter newsletter for sponsorships
✓ Press release
✓ News List
✓ Web site
✓ Chamber newsletter
Buffalo Grove Fine Arts Invitational
The Agreement between the Village of Buffalo Grove and Amy Amdur Productions will be
presented to the Village Board for approval on Monday, November 19, 2001. The meeting will
begin at 7:30 p.m. Ghida will make a presentation to the Board, and Amy Amdur will be present
for questions.
The proposed date is July 27 & 28, 2002.
Village Report
The updated AC contact list was distributed to the group.
Village Flag contest. As a follow-up to the last meeting, Ghida distributed a flyer promoting the
Redesign of the Village Flag Contest. The flyer was created by Stacey Kelly, Office of the Village
Manager. The contest shall be open to all high school students, adults and business
representatives of Buffalo Grove. Entries are due by April 5, 2002 and winners will be announced
in May, 2002. The flag will be displayed on Flag Day, June 14, 2002. The Arts Commission shall
judge the entries and make a recommendation to the Village Board for final approval.
Banner Design Contest for corporations. It was recommended that the Commission focus on the
existing projects, specifically obtaining sponsorships for the proposed programs, rather than
moving forward with another project.
