Neukirch, Assistant Village Manager Trustee Liaisons Trustee Bruce Kahn Trustee John Marienthal Welcome Linda welcomed the commission members; the meeting began at 7:20 p.m. Approval of Minutes, 10/10/2001 Approved by Greenberg, second by Strauss. Motion Carried. Chair Report Linda was pleased to announce that the Village Board approved the Arts Commission by Ordinance at their meeting on Monday, November 5, 2001. President Hartstein is expected to re-appoint existing members as a result, and appoint new members that have completed talent bank applications in the next few weeks. Commissioner Reports Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band - Ilene Election of the Band Board of Directors. The first Board meeting was well attended. Congratulations to the following individuals that were elected to serve on the Band Board: Jim Osters President Erin Rakickas Vice President/Membership Cam Reizner Secretary/Treasurer Dan Weinberger Librarian Howard IShapiro Member at Large Marty Gabler Member at Large Ken Horwitz Member at Large Aaron Neumann Equipment Manager Communication. It was agreed that Howard Green should not include the entire Commission on any e-mail communication relating to the Buffalo Grove Symphonic Board. Ghida will contact Howard and advise him to send all communication to Ilene and copy to Linda, Fred, and Ghida. Ilene will report on Band issues to the Arts Commission on a monthly basis, and via e-mail as needed. Report from Commission Band. Ilene reported on a number of issues that were discussed at the Band Board meeting: a) Creation of CDs for sale at performances b) Sponsorship c) Performance First Performance. Scheduled for Sunday, April 28, 2002 beginning at 7:00 p.m. A two-hour performance will be coordinated. Linda had suggested that Woodlawn Middle School perform prior to the Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band performance in April. The band at their last meeting agreed to allow the students to perform during intermission; plus other stipulations were offered. The Commission decided not to pursue a partnership with a local school at this time. Practices. Practices have been extremely successful - the group plays outstanding. Sponsorship. Ghida sent letters to all business participants of the Buffaloes on Parade Program. Commissioners were encouraged to follow-up with telephone calls to these business contacts. A letter to every business with a license will be mailed within the next two weeks. Ilene will share the Buffaloes on Parade business partners so band members can follow-up and call the business representatives. Information about sponsorship, "Band Aides" will also be included in the following: ✓ Winter newsletter for sponsorships ✓ Press release ✓ News List ✓ Web site ✓ Chamber newsletter Buffalo Grove Fine Arts Invitational The Agreement between the Village of Buffalo Grove and Amy Amdur Productions will be presented to the Village Board for approval on Monday, November 19, 2001. The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. Ghida will make a presentation to the Board, and Amy Amdur will be present for questions. The proposed date is July 27 & 28, 2002. Village Report The updated AC contact list was distributed to the group. Village Flag contest. As a follow-up to the last meeting, Ghida distributed a flyer promoting the Redesign of the Village Flag Contest. The flyer was created by Stacey Kelly, Office of the Village Manager. The contest shall be open to all high school students, adults and business representatives of Buffalo Grove. Entries are due by April 5, 2002 and winners will be announced in May, 2002. The flag will be displayed on Flag Day, June 14, 2002. The Arts Commission shall judge the entries and make a recommendation to the Village Board for final approval. Banner Design Contest for corporations. It was recommended that the Commission focus on the existing projects, specifically obtaining sponsorships for the proposed programs, rather than moving forward with another project. Next Steps ✓ All Commissioners are encouraged to attend a Band rehearsal to provide support to the group. Meeting Schedule The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 12th at 7:00 p.m. AC meetings will be held on the second Wednesday of each month (unless otherwise noted) - Village Hall, second floor conference room. Motion to Adjourn — motion made by Strauss, second by Greenberg. Motion carried. The meeting concluded at 8:30 p.m. Linda thanked the members for their attendance and input.
