Neukirch, Assistant Village Manager Trustee Liaisons Trustee Bruce Kahn Trustee John Marienthal Welcome Linda welcomed the commission members and special guests Howard Green and Jim Osters, BG Symphonic Band. The meeting began at 7:00 p.m. Approval of Minutes, 12/12/2001 Approved by Schneider, second by Weissman. Motion Carried. Chair Report 1) Linda shared with the group the "Top 10 stories" as featured in the 12/27/2001 edition of the Pioneer Press -the Buffaloes on Parade was one of the top 10. 2) Contact List- it was requested that everyone verify their e-mail address, home address and telephone number. A contact list will be re-distributed with minutes from this meeting. Commissioner Reports Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band Susan provided the following report from the last Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band Board Meeting: Recording performance. The band expressed an interest in recording the concert on 4/28/2002. Ghida indicated that Unique Video, the Village's cable contractor has been advised to provide a cost estimate for recording the performance and providing full audio coverage. Further information will be forthcoming. Library space — A file cabinet was ordered and is already in place at the community center. The Band Board has been given access to the Center; a sign-in/out form was given to the Police Department so access can be granted. Identification will be required. Senior Expo — The group discussed performance at the Senior Expo. There was concern about getting musicians to attend a daytime performance given their job demands; plus transportation of equipment would need to be coordinated. The group expressed interest in performing at the following venues: ✓ Rotary Concert Program (Thursday—June/July) ✓ Park District Lawn Chair Lyrics (Tuesday—June/July) ✓ BG Days — Labor Day weekend. ✓ Performance with the Mt. Prospect Band. ✓ Consider Wheeling HS as another venue for performances if Stevenson or BG are booked. ✓ Atrium of the Indeck Building. Susan spoke to the manager and it was suggested that the Band review the space. Saturday or Sunday evening. The parking lot is 70,000 sq. ft. Association of Concert Bands — membership obtained; $50.00 per year. Next Board Meeting - next Thursday evening before rehearsal. Typically the Band Board meets on the first Thursday of the month. Jim indicated the Band's greatest need is access to equipment. Extremely pleased and appreciative with the support of the Village, Arts Commission, sponsorship, rehearsal space, marketing, and more. Ilene - Marriott called back, forwarding request to corporate. No other business called back. Peter, owner of Continental agreed to sponsorship - will forward soon. Bob Chins may sponsor- Ilene will follow-up. Rebecca indicated that (a) Shuey's requested that she contact corporate; (b) same response with McCormick; (c) Drum Center- not interested; (d) Adiana - not yet connected; (e) Brass Bow - no response. Elizabeth indicated that she left messages with everyone. Susan indicated that the number for Sound Post Inc was disconnected - Linda suggested that she contact the Skokie address; Chicago Gold Gallery - out of business; left messages with all others. Fred (a) Music Starts Here - left several messages; (b) Quinlan - spoke to someone who spoke little English. Howard suggested contacting the Burr Ridge location. Marketing meeting. Linda, Robyn, Bonnie, Gayle and Ghida met to discuss marketing. The report will be forwarded via attachment to all Commission members. Personality Profile. Will be distributed at the next Band meeting. The survey is optional for member members but strongly encouraged. The Profile will be sent to everyone as an attachment with the meeting minutes. VIP location. Everyone agreed to Robyn's suggestion to host the VIP reception be held at Valentino's vineyard in Long Grove. Ghida will follow-up with the owner. Shirts It was agreed that the Commission should have shirts to wear to the performance. Howard indicated that the Band members will be advised to wear white shirts and black pants. Although the Commission agreed that the shirts should be unified. Robyn and Ilene will check with their contacts about a possible shirt donation as a sponsor opportunity. Buffalo Grove Fine Arts Invitational Ghida and Ilene met with Amy Amdur to discuss the Art Festival. Ghida distributed the Artist Application to all Commissioners. Applications are due by March 16, 2002. Only original artwork will be considered. A small group will jury the applications. The group will consist of representatives of Amy Amdur, the Arts Commission; plus, the co-owner of Eclectic and Shoes for the Soul. Representing the AC will be Ilene Straus, Elizabeth Radtke, Sandy Greenberg. If additional members are needed, Rebecca indicated that she could serve on the jury. Village Report Nothing further. Meeting Schedule . The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 13th at 7:00 p.m. AC meetings will be held on the second Wednesday of each month (unless otherwise noted) - Village Hall, second floor conference room.
