The meeting began at 7:15 p.m. Approval of Minutes, 2/13/2002 Motion by Kove, second by Pervos. Motion carried. Chair Report 1) Linda was pleased that on the front cover of the Countryside last week, a photo and article appeared highlighting the Band. 2) The Village's Reception to recognize Commission and Committee members was held on Sunday at the Wyndham Garden Hotel. She was appreciative of the Village's effort to coordinate such a program. She hopes that Commission members would be able to attend next year and be recognized by the Village. 3) Linda, Ghida and Jim met prior to the meeting to review rehearsal space, a fall concert date, coordination of Mt. Prospect's percussion equipment to Buffalo Grove for the summer concerts, and other issues. Commissioner Reports Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band Band Report. Jim indicated on behalf of the Band Board that he was very grateful for the Arts Commission and the Village for their support and assistance. The Band Board continues to meets regularly and minutes are available for anyone interested. Rehearsal Space. Meridian Middle School (SD 102) has been very gracious and offered the use of the Band room through June 6, 2002 at no cost. Bonnie made a contact with Buffalo Grove High School and has reserved the band room on Thursdays through August 15; Ghida has completed the reservation form and submit a Certificate of Insurance. Linda suggested contacting St. Mary's as another place for rehearsals. Jim expressed concern with the decreasing level of attendance and conflicts in communication if the Band does not have one regular meeting place. Miscellaneous Issues. ✓ Ghida will inquire with SHS the cost to have a school rep videotape the performance. ✓ Ghida will verify with SHS Verify that band shell is set-up on stage. ✓ The Band Board will attempt to return unused music; Jim will coordinate this function. VIP Reception Rotary approved the Arts Commission coordinating the VIP reception during the concert on 6/27/2002. The performance will begin at 7:00 p.m.; the reception would begin at 6:00 p.m. Ghida will make arrangements with Pastabilities to provide the food as their sponsorship contribution. Dessert and soda would be purchased. Sponsors will receive preliminary information about the VIP reception when they receive their tickets in the mail. A separate mailing will be provided to sponsors to provide details of the program as the date approaches. The Commission agreed on bright yellow polo shirts, embroidered, black lettering. For the Band shirts, it was agreed to select white shirts, black lettering, embroidered. The band logo on the left chest, the Village logo on the left sleeve. Everyone signed up for a shirt size and all agreed on the prices: $28-$30 for Arts Commission shirts; and $22-$25 for Band members (the difference in price is due to the large quantity of band member shirts as opposed to 15 AC shirts). Buffalo Grove Fine Arts Invitational The jury will take place Thursday, April 4 beginning at 1:00 p.m. The following people volunteered to serve on the jury: Amy Amdur, Ilene Straus, Elizabeth Radtke, Sandy Greenberg, and Rebecca Goldberg. Plus, the co-owner of Eclectic and Shoes for the Soul. Sponsors needed...Ghida indicated that the Village has been very aggressive in trying to obtain sponsors for the upcoming art festival, and although there is a favorable response on the community program, not one business has agree to provide a financial sponsorship. The base sponsorship is $500. Sponsor forms were provided to all Commissioners. It was recommended that everyone try to get at least one $500 sponsor. The goal is to the raise the contract cost of $10,000. Village Report 1) Congratulations Linda Rosen — Linda was nominated by President Hartstein for the Lieutenant Governor Illinois Women of Achievement Award. 2) Trustee Liaison to the AC. Trustee John Marienthal has resigned from the Village Board due to a conflict of interest with his new job for the State. The Village Board is currently accepting applications for the trustee seat, and the Village Board hopes to interview applicants and make an appointment for the second meeting in April or May. It is anticipated that the new trustee will resume John's responsibilities as Trustee Liaison to the Arts Commission. An update will be provided at the next meeting. Meeting Schedule . The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 17th at 7:00 p.m. AC meetings will be held on the second Wednesday of each month (unless otherwise noted) - Village Hall, second floor conference room. Motion to Adjourn — motion made by Greenberg, second by Pervos. Motion carried. The meeting concluded at 8:20 p.m. Linda thanked the members for their attendance and input.
