Neukirch, Assistant Village Manager Trustee Liaison Trustee Bruce Kahn - present Welcome Linda welcomed the commission members and special guest Jim Osters. The meeting began at 7:10 p.m. Buffalo Grove Invitational Fine Art Festival Fifteen (15) interested volunteers attended an open house to discuss the upcoming fine art festival and discuss volunteer opportunities. Amy Amdur was present and provided an overview of the festival and an overview of committees. Volunteers signed up for one or more committees. Ghida will follow-up with interested volunteers in June; an early July meeting will be coordinated Approval of Minutes, 4/17/2002 Motion by Greenberg, second by Pervos. Motion carried. Chair Report ✓ Linda reported that she has received excellent feedback from the Band performance —from family members of musicians and from guests at and following the performance. ✓ Linda reported that she received a letter from Mr. Raymond Jagert, a Buffalo Grove resident that praised the successful performance of the BG Symphonic Band. He also indicated that a potential exists for our community to have a symphonic orchestra. It was agreed that Mr. Jagert would be invited to attend the next meeting; although the Commission would not proceed with this recommendation at this time. Commissioner Reports Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band Band Board Report. 1) Jim reported that the band, the board, and the conductor are very grateful to the Village and Arts Commission for helping to create the band —the premier performance was truly a "magical" night. 2) The video/dvd is excellent! Order forms were distributed; Ghida indicated this information would be included in the summer Village newsletter. 3) The Band plan to coordinate 3-4 holiday concerts in venues such as churches, temples, nursing homes in 2002. 4) The Band also plans to coordinate a formal, spring concert. 5) There has been difficulty in obtaining a venue at BGHS for the fall. BGHS indicated that they can not commit until June due to scheduling conflicts. 6) The anticipated concert in Long Grove fell through. 7) Volunteers needed on 6/27 to help the band set-up percussion equipment. Pick up is expected at 5:00 p.m. in Mt. Prospect. Follow-up Information from the Premier Performance It was suggested that the photos from the band performance be highlighted on the front page of the Village's web site. Shirts Arts Commissioners that have not picked up their shirts can do so at the meeting this evening. Checks can be made payable to the Village of Buffalo Grove. Shirt costs are $30 for AC shirts and $24 for Band shirts. 4/28/2002 performance— promotion has been on-going. Upcoming performance schedule: ✓ Rotary Concert Program, June 27, 2002. 7:00 p.m. —9:00 p.m. $300. Confirmed. ✓ Park District Lawn Chair Lyrics, July 30, 2002. 7:00 p.m. $200. Confirmed. Joint performance with BG singers. ✓ Buffalo Grove Invitational Fine Art Festival, July 28, 2002. Confirmed. ✓ BG Days —Saturday, August 31, 2002. 3:30 p.m. —4:30 p.m. $200. Confirmed. VIP Reception The VIP Reception will be held on 6/27/2002. The performance will begin at 7:00 p.m.; the reception would begin at 6:00 p.m. Pastabilities will serve as major sponsor for the event. Dessert and soda would be purchased. Sponsors received preliminary information about the VIP reception when they received their tickets in the mail. A separate mailing will be provided to sponsors to provide details of the program as the date approaches. Lynne Schneider and Robyn Kove will assist Ghida with set-up and coordination of this event. Sponsorship - Ghida provided a preliminary update on the budget and "band-aides". Further information will be sent to the Commission under separate cover. Design a Village Flag Contest A late entry was received by a graphic artist. Everyone agreed that the Arts Commission would make a recommendation to the Village Board not to pursue the creation of a flag from the entries. The entries will however be kept on file and may be used for BG promotion. Ghida will follow-up and send a letter to the most recent applicant. Buffalo Grove Fine Arts Invitational Sponsors needed! Fred indicated that Merryl Lynch is still considering sponsorship. Sandy will follow-up with Ilene about sponsorship by Bob Chins. Robyn has a second request to IPA about sponsorship; she also contacted a local insurance broker regarding possible sponsorship. Fred indicated that the owner of Teriyika Box has expressed an interest in serving food at the festival; they were directed to contact Ghida. Village Report Nothing further. Next Steps As noted herein. Meeting Schedule . The next meeting will be held on Monday, June 10th at 7:00 p.m. AC meetings will be held on the second Wednesday of each month - unless otherwise noted. Meetings will be held at Village Hall, second floor conference room, unless noted. Motion to Adjourn — motion made by Weissman, second by Greenberg. Motion carried.
