The meeting began at 7:15 p.m. Approval of Minutes, 5/8/2002 Motion by Kove, second by Pervos. Motion carried. Chair Report ✓ Linda reported that communication with Howard has been on-going and beneficial. ✓ The Ela Township Art Festival this past weekend was disappointing; only 60 artists were in attendance and very little public traffic. Commissioner Reports No report. Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band Band Board Report. • October 26, 2002 —fall concert, Buffalo Grove High School. Entrance time, 5:00 p.m., 8 pm start. Capacity—600. Ghida has received the contract from BGHS and has requested a Certificate of Insurance that will be sent back to the school with a signed contract. a) The Band will inquire with BGHS about videotaping the performance. b) Linda will inquire with Moto Photo about videotaping the performance. c) Ghida indicated that several recommendations were made regarding coordination of bus service from senior facilities to the performance site, i.e. Claremont, Sunrise, Cambridge on the Lake, et al. d) Ticket prices will be $5.00 advance, $6.00 at the door. • The Band is looking for clarinets and other instrument players. • Ghida will send a press release indicating the clarinet players and trombones are needed. This information will also be included on the web site. • Howard is coordinating further advertisement in the Music Man magazine (depending on cost). Upcoming performance schedule: ✓ Rotary Concert Program, June 27, 2002. 7:00 p.m. —9:00 p.m. $300. Confirmed. ✓ Park District Lawn Chair Lyrics, July 30, 2002. 7:00 p.m. $200. Confirmed. Joint performance with BG singers. ✓ Buffalo Grove Invitational Fine Art Festival, July 28, 2002. Confirmed. ✓ BG Days —Saturday, August 31, 2002. 3:30 p.m. —4:30 p.m. $200. Confirmed. ✓ Fall concert. October 26, 2002 — Buffalo Grove High School. Entrance time, 5:00 p.m., 8:00 p.m. start. 2 hour performance. Ticket prices will be $5.00 advance, $6.00 at the door. VIP Reception The VIP Reception will be held on 6/27/2002. The performance will begin at 7:00 p.m.; the reception would begin at 6:00 p.m. Pastabilities will serve as major sponsor for the event. Dessert and soda would be purchased. Sponsors received invitational to attend the event. Ghida will coordinate with Village staff to obtain chairs, tables and the food. Fred will provide the welcome and introductions; Trustee Braiman will present the plaques and certificates to sponsors. Lynne, Fred, Ilene, Sandy and Robyn will assist with set-up and coordination of this event. ✓ Ghida will create a flyer that will include the calendar of events and sponsor information —this information will be distributed at the reception. Sponsorship - Ghida provided an update on the budget and "band-aides". To date, a total of $930.96 is in the Band budget. Buffalo Grove Fine Arts Invitational Sponsors. An overview of sponsorship was provided. Ilene sent a letter regarding sponsorship to Gatorade. Bob Chin's is unable to provide at this time. Volunteers - Approximately 25 individuals have volunteered for the art festival. The next volunteer meeting will be Wednesday, July 10, 2002 beginning at 7:00 p.m. Banners - Twenty banners have been ordered and will be delivered this week. Public Works will install the banners on Rt. 83 and Lake Cook Road surrounding the Buffalo Grove Town Center. Promotion/Media- posters and postcards will be ready for distribution by the next meeting. Amdur has arranged to have information about the festival on the Regal Cinema theatres on every screen of every theatre beginning July 8th through the festival date. The following organizations have commit to trade-outs for the art festival: • WBBM Radio - $20,000 • CLTV- $18,000 • Daily Herald - $10,000 Paid advertising will include WFMT Radio, Chicago Tribune, Sun Times, Chicago Parent, JUF News, and Buffalo Grove Town Center theatres. A staff meeting will be conducted on June 26, 2002 with all Village departments. Amdur Productions' Cantigny Sculpture and Fine Art Festival will be held June 15 & 16, 2002 in Wheaton, IL. Valentino Vineyard - "Buffalo Grove" wine. A status report was provided to the Arts Commission concerning the "Buffalo Grove" wine label. A polling of the Village Board concerning the next steps is currently being conducted. Parking - staff has received confirmation from several neighboring properties providing the Village the ability to use their parking lots as overflow parking the weekend of the festival. Village Report Nothing further Next Steps Linda has been in correspondence from Raymond Jagert, a resident interested in starting a community orchestra. Linda stressed to him that nothing could be pursued until at least year 2003. A meeting was requested. Ghida and Linda will meet with Mr. Jagert on June 25, 2002. Linda reported that the Woodlawn Middle School Jazz Band's recent performance at the Rotary Green was very successful. It is encouraged that the Arts Commission work with the school districts and middle schools next year to coordinate a middle school performance. Meeting Schedule . The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 10th at 7:00 p.m. AC meetings will be held on the second Wednesday of each month - unless otherwise noted. Meetings will be held at Village Hall, second floor conference room, unless noted. Motion to Adjourn — motion made by Weissman, second by Strauss. Motion carried.
