Welcome
Linda welcomed the commission members and special guests. The meeting began at 7:10 p.m.
Approval of Minutes, 7/10/2002
Motion by Weissman, second by Pervos. Motion carried.
Chair Report
✓ Linda expressed special thanks to everyone once again for their participation and hard work
coordinating the fine art festival.
Commissioners Reports
No report.
Proposal for a Buffalo Grove Symphonic Orchestra - Mr. Raymond Jagert
Linda reported that she and Ghida met with Ray Jagert, an individual interested in forming a
Buffalo Grove Symphonic Orchestra. Mr. Jagert is extremely organized and provided a
comprehensive report/proposal. The report is available upon request.
A great deal of follow-up discussion was held. Linda indicated that the Commission will discuss
the proposal further and we will report back to Mr. Jagert.
Motion by Schneider to table the proposal until such time that greater energy can be placed on the
subject. Second by Kove. Motion carried.
Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band
Band Board Report
• No report.
Practice Venue. Struggling to find a practice venue for two weeks in September.
Sponsorship - Ghida provided an update on the budget and "band-aides". A total of $517.18 is in
the Band budget. A copy of the budget is available upon request. It is strongly recommended that
the Band charge a membership fee for participation. Fundraising options should also be
considered.
Upcoming performance schedule:
✓ BG Days —Saturday, August 31, 2002. 3:30 p.m. —4:30 p.m. $200. Confirmed.
✓ Fall concert. October 26, 2002 — Buffalo Grove High School. Entrance time, 5:00 p.m., 8:00
p.m. start. 2 hour performance. Ticket prices will be $5.00 advance, $7.00 at the door; seniors and
students with I D. $5.00.
✓ May 4, 2003, Sunday, Stevenson High School, 3:00 p.m.
Buffalo Grove Days Parade. Ghida confirmed that several members from the Band are
participating in the Parade.
Band Boosters/Band-Aides. It was recommended a group of interested individuals serve as
band-aides or band boosters. The individuals would work the staff table at performance, assist
with sponsorship, and help promote the Band. Bonnie will talk to the Band Board about this issue.
Buffalo Grove Days
Everyone signed-up to participate in BG Days selling water bottles and distributing fliers promoting
the Arts Commission and Band. Following is the schedule for volunteering:

Buffalo Grove Invitational Fine Art Festival — Recap
Ghida distributed a summary of everyone's feedback concerning the art festival; the report is
available upon request. A great deal of discussion was held regarding the best aspects of the
festival and the areas that need improvement. Amy will be invited to the next meeting to discuss
the judging issue and other areas of the festival. The comprehensive report is available upon
request. An overview will be provided to the public at the 8/19/2002 Village Board meeting.
Village Report
Nothing further.
Other Business
Linda suggested that everyone think about goals for next year that that the AC should pursue.
Ghida indicated that she spoke with Ron Starr, BG resident and sculptor, that indicated the Village
should consider coordinating a sculpture park in Buffalo Grove. Mr. Starr will be invited to attend
the next meeting to discuss this venture further.
Meeting Schedule
. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 4th at 7:00 p.m. AC meetings will be
held on the second Wednesday of each month - unless otherwise noted. Meetings will be held at
Village Hall, second floor conference room, unless noted.
Motion to Adjourn — motion made by Kove, second by Strauss. Motion carried.
The meeting concluded at 9:00 p.m. Linda thanked the members for their attendance and input.
