Welcome
Linda welcomed the commission members and special guests Ray Jagert and Lori Boxer. The
meeting began at 7:10 p.m.
Approval of Minutes, 11/13/2002
Motion to approve by Schneider, second by Pervos. Motion carried.
Chair Report
1) Linda congratulated the Band for all of the holiday performances - congratulations/ At the last
performance, a musician from Canada joined the band as a guest musician. The gentleman saw
the Village's web site and contacted the Village with an interest in attending a performance.
2) The 2002 annual report was provided and will be presented to the Village Board in January.
The report will be provided to the Commission via e-mail with the minutes. The report is available
to the general public upon request.
3) Middle School Music Festival -the proposal would be to provide each district an opportunity for
their middle school to perform at the Rotary Village Green on a Thursday in May. It was agreed
that three concerts would be coordinated; an invitation would be sent to the middle school districts;
approval would be required by Rotary and the Village. Motion by Weissman, second by Strauss.
Commissioners Reports
No reports.
Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band
Band Board Report .
Next meeting in January. No report.
Sponsorship- Ghida provided an update on the budget and "band-aides". A copy of the budget was
distributed and is available upon request. There is a total of$3,677.30 in the band budget.
A discussion took place regarding the procedure for contacting one-year sponsors for follow-up
assistance. It was agreed that Ghida would send a letter to the business at their one-year
anniversary and copy Ilene on the correspondence. Ilene will coordinate the follow-up personal
telephone calls; either make the call or delegate the task to a band member or Commissioner.
Upcoming performance schedule:
✓ 12/15/02 —Sunday, Assembly of God Church. 6:00 p.m. Confirmed.
✓ 5/4/03—Sunday. Stevenson High School. 3:00 p.m. Confirmed.
✓ 7/4/03— Independence Day Celebration, Rotary Village Green. — no contract yet.
Art League
Lori provided an overview of the proposed Art League and an interest survey. She indicated that
Ron Starr, artist, agreed to conduct the first workshop; a topic has not yet been identified. The
program is proposed to be held at the Village's community/youth center. It was indicated that a
proposal would be provided to the Village Board for approval as the first step. If approved, the
survey would be distributed to capture the public interest of this league and their interest in specific
topics.
Buffalo Grove Invitational Fine Art Festival 2003
Ghida provided a status report of the contract with Amdur Productions. It was indicated that a
Letter of Understanding was recommended rather than a formal contract. An overview of a
conversation with Amy Amdur the afternoon of this date, 12/11/2002, was provided. A
recommendation has been provided to the Village Board via e-mail. If approved, the Letter of
Understanding or an Agreement would be submit to the Village Board for formal consideration.
Sculpture Park research —Gayle Pervos.
Gayle indicated that she met with Ray, Ilene and Sandy to discuss the proposed sculpture park.
Grants/budget - Ray will coordinate this aspect of the project. It was recommended that the AC
start an annual tradition of fundraising. The following ideas were generated for this endeavor —
water bill donations, art festival party to benefit the sculpture park/Arts Commission, coordination of
a music festival, i.e. contract with AC Rock to provide entertainment.
Grant research — Ilene Strauss
Ilene provided information on several grant opportunities — most require some form of education
component. For example, there is an art program for high school teenagers offered by the
Department of Justice — a $10,000 per year grant. Marlene & Rebecca Youth Art Handbook,
founded by the Endowment of the Arts. The publication serves as a tool kit for those wishing to
start or enhance programs. Every department except the Department of Energy and Defense has
grant opportunities.

Next Steps
Linda encouraged everyone to reviews goals that will be discussed at the first meeting of the AC in
2003.
1) Fred suggested setting up a silent or regular auction of art items during the intermission of the
May Band performance.
2) Bruce suggested a silent auction as part of the opening celebration at Eskape.
Meeting Schedule
. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 8th at 7:00 p.m. AC meetings will be held
on the second Wednesday of each month - unless otherwise noted. Meetings will be held at
Village Hall, lower level conference room, unless noted.
