MEETING MINUTES
Wednesday, 12 February, 2003

Welcome
Linda welcomed the Commission members and new Commissioner Barbara Herman — welcome!
The meeting began at 7:05 p.m.
Approval of Minutes, 1/8/2003
Motion to approve by Weissman, second by Gold. Motion carried.
Chair Report
Linda indicated that letters to the middle schools were issued regarding the Middle School Music
Fest in May, 2003. A brief overview of the program was provided. Linda indicated that Woodlawn
would like to reserve May 29th for her school group.
Commissioners Reports
Art Festival (further info below)
1) Art Auction proposal - Ilene. No report.
2) A great deal of discussion took place regarding an evening for the community and artists the
weekend of the Art Festival. It was agreed that the Commission should research a possible
Saturday evening party at Eskape. Ghida will obtain information about available packages from the
manager at Eskape.
3) Michelle volunteered to work with Ghida to create a sponsor package program for the entire
festival.
Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band
Band Board Report .
• Bonnie reported that the Band is working on the 5/4 concert at Stevenson.
• Ghida will issue a press release seeking a pianist for the 5/4 performance.
• It was recommended that the Band purchase one or more signs that could be displayed at each
performance.
• The time of the performance at the Art Festival was discussed. Bonnie expressed an interest in
maintaining the noon time slot on Sunday.
• The Band is considering hosting two formal events each year —one at BGHS, another at SHS.
It was discussed that the same time frame for each performance be pursued each year.
• A "Call for Musicians" will be included in the Village newsletter.
• It was indicated that the Park District was not able to accommodate the Band as part of their
Lawn Chair Lyrics Program Tuesday evenings during the summer.
• Business Plan. Ray reported that he attended the Band Board meeting to discuss a Business
Plan and performing arts venue. A follow-up letter was provided by H. Green & J. Osters, on
behalf of the Band Board, indicating that the proposed Plan should not be pursued. Concerns
were expressed regarding the direction of the Band, performance venues, and other issues
pertaining to the operation of the Band.
• Band Budget. It was agreed that the Band should develop a band budget —detailing anticipated
revenues and expenditures for the year. Ray will work with Jim to draft a budget.

Sponsorship- Ghida provided an update on the budget and "band-aides". A copy of the budget was
distributed and is available upon request. There is a total of$5,059.82 in the band budget.
Upcoming performance schedule:
✓ 5/4/03— Sunday. Stevenson High School. 3:00 p.m. Confirmed. The Band will coordinate
creation of the program and flyers. A name of the performance has not yet been created.
✓ 7/4/03— Independence Day Celebration, Rotary Village Green. — no contract yet.
Art League—waiting for a proposal.

Buffalo Grove Invitational Fine Art Festival 2003
Ghida indicated that the Village Board approved the Letter of Understanding with Amdur
Productions at their meeting on February 4th. A report was provided following a meeting between
staff and Amy Amdur. A copy of the report is available upon request to the Village.

Gayle - Sculpture Park—a report will be provided at the next meeting.

Nothing further.
Meeting Schedule
. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 12th at 7:00 p.m. AC meetings will be held
on the second Wednesday of each month - unless otherwise noted. Meetings will be held at
Village Hall, lower level conference room, unless noted.
