Buffalo Grove Invitational Fine Art Festival 2003
1) Jury experience — Barbara attended one day of the jury process; she noted that process went
very well. The make-up of the jury team was very impressive.
2) The Village Board approved an Ordinance establishing an Arts & Crafts Vendor License at their
meeting on March 3th.
3) A proposal regarding the Art Purchase Program was distributed and discussed.
a) Add —Village may Commission work from an artist
b) Add —due to time constraints, each ABC members should not review more than 40-50 artist
booths.
c) Approved by the Commission; the Guidelines will be sent to the Village Board for final approval.
4) Ghida indicated that the Village has sent the following letters promoting the festival:
a) Town Center businesses
b) Park District Encore — invitation to participate in the festival
c) All restaurants in BG — invitation to participate in the festival
d) 2002 volunteers —seeking interest in 2003
5) Volunteer meeting —6:00 p.m., 4/8/2003, Village Hall Council Chambers
6) Sponsor Opportunities —"Be pART of the community". Michelle presented an idea to create a
"sponsor card". Interested businesses would be able to have a punch card and use it for various
discounts throughout the community; for example, 10% off a pizza, $3 off a car wash, etc.
Exclusivity would be offered for each business. All businesses that are sponsors would be able to
purchase several cards and sell them to their customers. The sponsor cards would also be sold at
the Arts Festival. The goal would be to sell the card several weeks before the festival and
thereafter. The cards would be sold at Village Hall and any art function coordinated by the Village.
The discounts would expire after one year. Lynne will call Dan Wiczer at Stevenson High School
to obtain further information about their Patriot Savings Card.
7) Misters— Fred conducted research on regarding cooling misters for the festival. Water supply
and electricity would be required. Big Fogg costs approximately $50, expansion is approximately
$28. A more preferred, self contained misting system, by Big Fogg, will cover a 16; area. The
estimated cost is $150/day to rent or$630 to purchase. Ghida noted that the Park District has
donated the use of their misters for the Invitational; their system was made in-house. Ghida will
forward the research that Fred conducted to the Supt. of Public Works, Ray Rigsby, to determine if
they could make such a device.
Old Business
• Sculpture Park proposal —tabled to the next meeting.
• Middle School Music Festival —Woodlawn has reserved 5/29. Ilene followed-up with the other
middle schools; no other confirmations have been made.
