The meeting began at 7:10 p.m. Approval of Minutes, 3/12/2003 Motion to approve by Schneider, second by Strauss. Motion carried. Chair Report Portraits of Art. Linda referenced a web site, www.project9865.org. She indicated that on a recent trip to Los Angeles, she visited a breath-taking sculpture park that "unifies the healing arts with public art". She encouraged everyone to visit the web site and consider a similar program in Buffalo Grove. It was indicated that the focus could be supporting the troops, celebration of diversity, or another venture "close to home" since we don't have any major hospitals in the community to address the healing program in L.A. A subcommittee was created to address this issue in combination with the Art League; a proposal will be created for consideration by the Board. The subcommittee will meet on Saturday, May 10th at 11:00 a.m., Deerfield Bakery. Commissioners Reports Barbara suggested that the Arts Commission should consider providing yellow ribbons to the Commission. It was recommended that since the Band has a budget, they should consider purchasing yellow ribbons; the Arts Commission would be interested in distributing the ribbons to the community. Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band May 4th performance. Village staff (Stacey) designed the flyers, program book and tickets for the performance. Bob Kern, Moto Photo, designed posters highlighting a photo of the Band. Promotion has begun. The Board is meeting Thursday to provide each member with a minimum of 5 tickets to sell. The evening of the performance, set-up will begin at 12:30 pm at Stevenson. It was recommended that the senior and assisted living facilities should be contacted regarding the performance; several facilities have a bus system so they may coordinate transportation services for their residents. Linda and Fred volunteered to work the registration table at the band performance. Ghida will provide the cash box, change, and other items for the ticket table. Business Plan. The Commission reviewed the draft Plan, prepared by Howard Green. Comments and recommendations will be provided under separate cover. Sponsorship - Ghida provided an update on the "band-aides" and expenditures. A copy of the budget was distributed and is available upon request. There is a total of $4,867.39 in the band budget. VIP Recognition - It was recommended that the VIP recognition take place Sunday at the Fine Art Festival. Sponsors would receive their recognition plaque and could be given a gift certificate to Cold Stone Creamery or another food vendor at the festival.
