Art League
Lori distributed a proposed plan for the Art League. Based on discussion with the Village, it was
suggested that the Village could not support a plan as previously submitted due to limited staff and
financial resources. The proposed plan entails a number of local, professional artists that would be
used as a resource to the Arts Commission. For example, several artists have expressed an
interest in assisting with the painting of the "Sittin' Pretty" bench. Each proposed program would
be reviewed on a case by case basis. Other programs discussed as part of a proposed work plan
throughout the year included, but was not limited to, Children's Art Exhibit at a Band performance,
Halloween window painting for students, and year-end exhibit at the Vernon Area Library.
"Limelight Cafe" — February 20, 2004, 7:30— 10:00 p.m., at eSkape.
Gayle reported 10 bands have signed-up to perform and two individual performances. Gayle
talked to the manager at eSkape about two stages so one performance could be done while the
follow-up ground/individual was setting-up. It is anticipated that each performance will be given 20
minutes to perform. Ghida will set-up the schedule based on registration, then she and Gayle will
confirm participation by the end of the week.
Subcommittee members — please meet at eSkape at 6:00 pm:
1) Gayle
2) Fred
3) Marilyn
4) Robyn
5) Michelle

Bench Program — "Sittin' Pretty in BG"
Fred reported that Village staff ordered the bench for the program on January 23, 2004. It is
estimated that delivery will be in 4-6 weeks from this date.
Ilene is involved on the sub-committee to create a draft for the bench. Sandy also volunteered to
serve on the sub-committee. Lori indicated she would report this program to the Art League to
inquire if other artists are interested in submitting draft drawings for the painted bench. Submittals
should be sent to Ghida within the next two months.
Buffalo Grove Invitational Fine Art Festival, July 17 & 18, 2004
Ghida reported that more than 270 applicants have applied for the BG festival. Sandy reported
that she and Ilene attended the jury on Tuesday. They reviewed one and two dimensional
applications. Two (2) gallery owners, 2 artists, 2 curators, and others served on the jury. Sandy
indicated it was well done and an excellent experience.
Chalk Around the Block— Ghida indicated that Amy suggested a creative program that she saw in
Georgia at a local art festival. Community members — businesses, individuals and families would
be given the opportunity to buy a part of the sidewalk that they would paint the morning of the art
festival. The artwork would be reviewed then "best art" would be provided to the most creative or
most colorful drawings. The Commission expressed interest in this program.
Revenue generating ideas:
Fan sale —similar to last year's fans.
Mister fans.
Ghida will obtain cost estimates and report at the next meeting.

1) Special thanks to Cheryl and Judy for attending the meeting from Northbrook. A copy of the
Northbrook Annual Arts Commission Report was distributed for review.
2) Ghida indicated that the Northwest Water Commission will be giving Buffalo Grove 6,000
water bottles in which to sell and generate revenue. Anyone interested in submitting a draft label,
2" x 2", should present the draft to Ghida by the end of the month. The bottles can be sold at the
Art Festival. The Village will be responsible for the cost of printing and affixing the label.

8 pm and March 7th at 3 pm. Several AC members are involved.
