Chair Report
• Congratulations to Ilene, she is a proud new grandma of a baby boy.
• Congratulations Robyn on a successful 5K run and walk coordinated at Forest Grove Athletic
Club.
• Congratulations Amy Amdur, Amdur Productions; she is a proud mom of Sam Amdur, born on
9/8/2004.
• The Park District conducted a random survey to 5000 households in the community; they
received approximately 935 responses. The survey was featured in the Daily Herald on 9/22/2004.
• On 9/21/2004, the Daily Herald issued an article, "Arts touted as catalysts for towns." The
article discussed that communities need to be a better job identifying the arts programs that are
coordinated. Linda suggested inviting Arlene Valkanas, Executive Director of the Illinois Arts
Alliance, who was quoted in the article, to our next meeting. Linda will follow-up with Ms.
Valkanas.
Commissioners Reports

Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band
Band Board
Howard reported that the Band is in preparation for the upcoming fall performance.
Lynne completed the band program book (great job Lynne).
Tickets are due from the printer tomorrow. Meridian students will sort the tickets for sale by the
band members.
A bake sale will be coordinated by Michelle Horwitz at the upcoming performance. It was
suggested that the baked goods be sold before and after the performance.
Michelle volunteered to contact Steve Zalusky to promote the upcoming performance; Howard will
e-mail Michelle information about the upcoming performance so Michelle could relay the
information to the Daily Herald.
Volunteers at the fall performance: Susan, Marilyn, Fred, Linda, Lynne, and Ghida will be present.
Please arrive 6:15 pm. The performance begins at 7 pm.
Sponsors will be recognized before the concert in a small ceremony outside the auditorium. Linda
will recognize the grand sponsors as part of her welcome. Lynne suggested that a sponsor board
be created and placed outside of the auditorium; Ghida will create this Board for the performance.
The holiday concerts are open to the public. Donations, a "free will offering" are collected during
the performance to benefit the band.
Ghida indicated that the 2006 vehicle sticker can feature the band's logo in recognition of their 5th
anniversary.
Michelle suggested creating a CD to sell at concerts. Copyright, costs, and other logistical
information will be researched by the Band.
Ghida suggested that the sponsor levels be reviewed, in an effort to avoid large contribution
ranges such as $100 - $999 (Patron sponsor). The Band Board will review this issue with the goal
to have the sponsor levels introduced by May 1, 2005.
The theme for the spring concert will be American and Spanish music; a title has not yet been
selected. The fall '05 concert will be music of the romantic period.
Sponsorship - Ghida provided an update on the "band-aides" and expenditures. A copy of the
budget was distributed and is available upon request.

Sunday in the Park.
The last program was well received —5 people including Marilyn and Lori attended the program.
Upcoming events:
Sunday, November 14. 1-3 pm, Willow Stream Park.
December - Lori has been working with Marilu Patterson about a jewelry workshop/demonstration
for artists and interests guests. The event could be held at the Village's community/youth center or
at Patterson's studio. No date has been set for this program. Motion by Weissman to proceed,
second by Mann. Motion carried.
January 30, 2005 — drawing workshop at a cost of $35 per person. The workshop would be
coordinated by Lori Boxer, artist. Linda expressed a concern that the program would conflict with
Park District programming. After review of the Park District program book, it was determined that
their drawing/art classes were held during the week, and the classes were held on an on-going
basis, rather than a one-time workshop. The cost of the workshop was also a concern and it was
suggested that the program cost no more than $25. The fee would cover refreshments and
supplies, with the proceeds benefiting arts programming. Motion to coordinate this program as
noted by Weissman, second by Greenberg. Motion carried.
Buffalo Grove Invitational Fine Art Festival
Ghida indicated that she and Linda met with Amy Amdur to conduct a recap of the festival. The
Village's recap list, which included Commission and resident feedback, was reviewed with Amdur
and is available upon request.
Plans for the 2005 festival are underway. The application book for all of Amdur's festivals will be
printing in the next month.
There is preliminary approval from the Town Center owner to host the festival at the Center,
although he asked that a tenant meeting be coordinated by the Village. A meeting will be set-up
with Amdur and the date relayed to the Commission. The purpose of the meeting will be to review
the past festivals since many business owners are not at their stores the weekend of the festival,
and discuss opportunities for the businesses to enhance their operation this festival weekend.
Ghida indicated that she is initiating a survey of municipalities, businesses, and organizations that
coordinate art festivals to determine their costs. Amdur has requested that the Village pay a
contract fee to continue a festival in Buffalo Grove. It was suggested that a sponsor be obtained to
offset this cost since the Village can not budget for such an expense. Research is on-going.
Old Business
No business.
New Business
Michelle reported that the Daily Herald prints a section in their newspaper showcasing arts
programming and the arts commission in a community. Riverwalk Fine Art Fair and Geneva
examples were distributed for review. The addition is inserted into Daily Herald subscribers and
could be sent to non-subscribers. The artists pay an additional fee for the creation of this
publication, or advertisers could be solicited by Daily Herald staff to create the publication.
Village Report
Name tags for all Commissioners were distributed — Ghida thanked Lynne for the idea to provide
everyone name tags. Wear them proudly and don't lose them
Meeting Schedule
The next meeting will be held on November 3, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. AC meetings will be held on the
second Wednesday of each month - unless otherwise noted. Meetings will be held at Village Hall,
second floor conference room, unless noted.
