Welcome
Linda welcomed the Commission members and special guests Larry and Ronna Nierman, and
Howard Green and Dan Weinberg representing the BG Symphonic Band. The meeting began at
7:05 p.m.
Approval of Minutes, 9/22/04
Motion by Herman. Second by Alaynick. Motion carried.
Painting Donation by Dr. Larry Nierman.
Dr. Nierman donated a painting to the Village of Buffalo Grove entitled "Butterfly". He indicated
that he and his wife, Ronna, have been residents of Buffalo Grove for 27 years and he wanted to
give something back to the Village. The painting provides great symbolism; he moved to the
Village when it was still a cocoon and it has blossomed beautifully into a butterfly.
Chair Report
Congratulations to the Band on a successful fall performance in October!
Commissioners Reports
No report.
Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band
Band Board
Howard reported that three new band members have been elected to the Board. The publicity
position has also been filled; Liz Malis will fulfill this role effective immediately.
Great job to Lynne on the program book!
Special thanks to everyone that volunteered the evening of the performance.
Sponsorship - Ghida provided an update on the "band-aides" and expenditures. A copy of the
budget was distributed and is available upon request.
It was reported that the Band generated $4700 from ticket sales and the bake sale from the fall
performance; the net profit is approximately $4300. He stated that they purchased a
keyboard/synthesizer recently and this was the first step (ahead of schedule) in the instrument
procurement program as outlined in their business plan.
Dan reported that since the Band's inception in 2001, ticket sales have rose 67%, business
sponsorships have increased 34% and individual sponsorships have increased 15%. The
audience in 2001 was estimated at 260, and the last 2004 in performance generated approximately
450 attendees. The Band will prepare their annual report and business plan outlining operational
and financial goals for Band Board review in January, then the document will be presented to the
AC and copies provided to the Village Board.
Sponsor Form. Ghida suggested that the Band revise the sponsorship form since it was adopted
in 2001 and does not reflect the best opportunity for businesses to sponsor the band and receive
appropriate return on their investment. For example, one category of sponsorship is Patron which
provides for a great range of $100-$999; this range should be reduced and the benefits reviewed.

reported that two bands have signed up for the upcoming Limelight.
Linda will confirm Sam Ash's attendance at the Limelight; they will be providing the light system.

The banner for the Limelight Cafe was picked-up by Gayle— it looks great!
Bench Program — "Sittin' Pretty in BG"
Seven artists have signed up to participate in the program as well. Special thanks to Lori and
Marilyn for their Call to Artists action.
Four businesses have signed up for the program thus far. At the last meeting, Commissioners
volunteered to follow-up on letters that were sent to the Buffaloes on Parade owners and other
businesses in the community encouraging their participation in the program. Additional follow-up
was requested; Commissioners were asked to provide Ghida with a status report by next week:
Susan —Veterinary Specialty Clinic
Robyn — Deerfield Bakery, Lou Malnati's.
Barbara— Sunrise Assisted Living, Belmont
Gayle—Original Bagel & Bialy
Fred — Dengeo's, U Stor It, Hamilton Partners (to request distribution to their tenants in the
business park)
Linda —St. Mary's, BG Bank &Trust, LaSalle.
Marilyn - eSkape
Sunday in the Park.
Marilyn reported that the upcoming program has been cancelled.
Plans are underway for the January 30, 2005 drawing workshop; the cost will be $35 per person.
The workshop would be coordinated by Lori Boxer, artist.
Marilyn reported that Lori is also coordinating with Artist Marilu Patterson regarding a jewelry
demonstration on 11/20. It was suggested that this program should be coordinated in February
due to the late opportunity to properly market the program.
Buffalo Grove Invitational Fine Art Festival
Ghida reported that the 2005 Letter of Understanding between the Village and Amdur Productions
was approved by the Village Board at the meeting Monday evening.
The Commission discussed the revised layout of the Art Festival that was recommended at the
Town Center tenant meeting. The layout would provide for the artists to be back-to-back in the
main drive, and the flow of traffic would direct pedestrians to the east side of the drive to view one
set of artists, and on the west side to be in between a row of artists and the businesses in the
Town Center. Concerns were expressed regarding this layout.
Ghida indicated that the Village has agreed to assist Amdur with fundraising efforts since all of the
locations where she coordinates festivals, her company receives a minimum of $10,000 from the
host. No Village's "host' the festival, rather funding is received by hospitals, a chamber, and
private companies. A meeting is set-up with Connie's Clubhouse to advise them of the benefits of
sponsorship; a meeting will also be set-up with Chicago Indoor Racing to discuss a sponsorship
opportunity.
Old Business
No business.
New Business
Village Report
Ghida reported that the Town Center businesses are conducting more promotion of their
businesses. A) The public is invited to attend the Grand Opening celebration of Chocolate Marvels
in the Town Center on Saturday, November 6, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. Discounts will be provided,
refreshments, and a ribbon cutting for the new business.
B) The BG Theater is coordinating "Movie with the Mayor and Board" on Sunday, December 4th
at 10:00 a.m. The public is invited to attend a free movie showing of Elk and Shrek 2. Attendees
are encouraged to bring a canned food donation which would be provided to Wheeling and Vernon
Township Food Pantries; and anyone that provides an unwrapped, new toy (for youth 16 and
under), the donations will be provided to the Toys for Tots program and the attendee will receive a
free large popcorn.
Ghida reported that the sculpture that the Village commissioned by Bernett Sculpture arrived last
week. The sculpture is on display in the council chambers.
Meeting Schedule
The next meeting will be held on December 8, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. AC meetings will be held on the
second Wednesday of each month - unless otherwise noted. Meetings will be held at Village Hall,
second floor conference room, unless noted.
Motion to Adjourn — Motion by Alaynick, second by Kove. Motion carried.
The meeting concluded at 8:30 p.m. Linda thanked the members for their attendance and input.
Respectfully Submitted,
