Welcome
Linda welcomed the Commission members and the Village liaison, Susan Levy. The meeting
began at 7:05 p.m.
Approval of Minutes, 2/9/05
Approved by Commissioner Barbara Herman, seconded by Commissioner Robyn Kove. Motion
carried.
Chair Report
Kudos to the BG Singers, who performed at Stevenson High School last weekend.
Commissioners Reports
No report.
Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band
Bonnie Gold reported the following information:
The Band is looking for volunteers for the May 15th concert at Stevenson High School. They need
at least two ushers and two ticket sellers. The Arts Commission is glad to attend this attend, but
cannot commit to filling these slots.
Posters advertising this concert will be available on April 9th.
The Band will practice at Aptakisic Junior High School this summer.
The Band will not play at BG Days, except for a small group participating in the Parade.
Wayne Messmer will narrate "A Lincoln Portrait at the 5th anniversary concert on May 21, 2006.
"Limelight Cafe"
The next Limelight will be held on April 29, 2005 at eSkape; 7:30 pm — 11 pm. Gayle reported that
plans are underway for this event; eighth graders will be invited to attend this spring event. Please
volunteer for this event by e-mailing Gayle Pervos.
To limit inappropriate behavior, more specific language will be added to the rules distributed to
interested participants. Signs will be made to display at the ticket table, as well, stating "No
Refunds".
Bench Program — "Sittin' Pretty in BG"
Susan Levy reported that the benches have arrived and are being picked up by the 13 participating
organizations. Additional businesses that have joined this program are the Buffalo Grove Fitness
Center and the Indian Trails Public Library.
Buffalo Grove Invitational Fine Art Festival
Sponsors are still needed! Fred Weissman is pursuing some.
Ilene Strauss attended the jury selection.
Old Business
Commissioners' Reception
Linda Rosen, Bonnie Gold and Fred Weissman attended the Village of Buffalo Grove's
Commissioners' Reception on February 27th.
Sing Along
Barb Herman reported about a Sing Along program coordinated in Palatine. Questions were raised
regarding distributing copyrighted lyrics. Discussion continued regarding a suitable theater. Barb
will follow up and get more information.
Adult Limelight
Discussion continued regarding the feasibility of an Adult Limelight. A subcommittee was formed
(Robyn, Gayle, Linda, Fred and Marilyn) to pursue further. A visit will be made to the Golf Dome.
Binny's will be approached.
New Business
Adlai Stevenson Sculpture
Kimm Statsny, from the Stevenson High School Fine Arts Department, approached Linda Rosen
asking if the Arts Commission could help promote Stevenson's plan to create a sculpture of Adlai
Stevenson in conjunction with this year's 40th year celebration of the HS. The Arts Commission
approved a motion (made by Fred Weissman, seconded by Gayle Pervos) to allow Stevenson High
School representatives to share space at our booth during the Arts Festival to promote this project.
This will be reviewed with Ghida Neukirch, Assistant Village Manager.
Indian Trails Library Request
Chris Gibson from the Library requested that local artists display their work in the library's meeting
room. Fred Weissman and Marilyn Alaynick will follow up on this request.
Meeting Schedule
The next meeting will be held on April 13, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. Linda Rosen and Barbara Herman will
not be able to attend this meeting.
AC meetings will be held on the second Wednesday of each month - unless otherwise noted.
Meetings will be held at Village Hall, second floor conference room, unless noted.
Motion to Adjourn
Commissioner Marilyn Alaynick made motion to adjourn meeting, seconded by Commissioner
Gayle Pervos. Motion carried. The meeting concluded at 8:35 p.m. Linda thanked the members for
their attendance and input.
