Fred also welcomed Susan Levy, representing the Village in Ghida's absence. The meeting began at 7:02 p.m. Approval of Minutes, 3/9/05 Due to lack of quorum, these minutes will be approved at the next Arts Commission meeting. Chair Report None Commissioners Reports No report. Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band Fred Weissman reported the following information: • The Band is looking for one volunteer to sell tickets for the May 15th concert at Stevenson High School. Sandy Greenberg agreed to volunteer. • The auditorium holds 800 seats, so tickets need to be sold! Sell tickets! • A bake sale will take place at the May 15th concert. • Posters advertising this concert have been distributed. • The Band reminded the Village that they need the cash box with enough change prior to the performance. • A DVD is being made for this concert. • Lynne Schneider distributed the draft program book for review. "Limelight Cafe" Gayle reported that plans for the April 29 Limelight are underway. The program is full with 2 bands on the waiting list. Commissioners Greenberg, Alaynick, Weissman, and Pervos (with her husband) agreed to volunteer. The ticket desk will be moved to allow for more crowd control. Please volunteer for this event by e-mailing Gayle Pervos. Bench Program — "Sittin' Pretty in BG" Susan Levy reported that most benches have been picked up by the 13 participating organizations. The painted benches are due back to the Village by June 1 to be on display until July 31. A question was raised as to how the benches will be secured while on display. The Commission wondered if photos of the benches could be placed on Channel 6 and the website. A question was also raised as to whether the bench display could be announced in the upcoming Village newsletter. Buffalo Grove Invitational Fine Art Festival Sponsors are still needed! Fred Weissman is following up on some possible sponsorships. Letters have been sent to previous volunteers asking their interest in volunteering again this year. A question was asked if the first volunteer meeting would be held at 6:00 pm prior to next month's Arts Commission meeting. Old Business Sing Along The Commission would like to pursue the idea of the Sing Along similar to how Palatine conducted their Sing Along, as outlined previously by Barbara Herman. Lynne Schneider made contact with the executive director of JCYS, in Buffalo Grove at the corner of Aptakisic and Weiland. They would not charge for the use of their facility, as they are interested in promoting their facility to the families the Sing Along would attract. They have a gymnasium available that would seat 300; and a front atrium which could seat 125. They have parking for 125 or overflow parking arrangements nearby with Twin Groves Ice Rink (with a shuttle). Lynne will follow up, visit the site, and get more information. Adult Limelight Gayle and Robyn visited the Golf Dome with the idea of using this facility for an adult fundraiser this fall. The Commission realizes that it must come to a decision regarding whether the Sing Along or the Adult Limelight is realistic to implement this fall. Stevenson HS Sculpture The Stevenson High School sculpture project appears to be happening after many years of planning and fundraising. Their representatives will share space at the Arts Commission booth during the Arts Festival to promote this project. Indian Trails Library Request Fred Weissman visited the library to get a better idea of what size art would be appropriate for the walls and for the glass cases. He passed this information on to local artists and other Commission members. Anyone who has art they wish to display on the walls should contact Jim McCarthy at Indian Trails. The contact person to display art in the cases is Rella. Meeting Schedule The next meeting will be held on May 11, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. Gayle Pervos will not be able to attend this meeting. AC meetings will be held on the second Wednesday of each month - unless otherwise noted. Meetings will be held at Village Hall, second floor conference room, unless noted.
