Welcome
Linda welcomed the Commission members and Howard Green, Band Conductor. The meeting
began at 7:18 p.m.
Approval of Minutes, 5/12/05
Due to a lack of quorum, meeting minutes will be considered at the next meeting.
Chair Report
Linda indicated that the Art Festival volunteer meeting was held this evening at 6:00 p.m.
Approximately ten people attended the meeting. There are a number of volunteers who are unable
to participate due to other obligations. Additional volunteers are needed. Bonnie indicated that she
would invite the band members to volunteer.
Commissioners Reports
No report.
Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band
Bonnie indicated that the spring performance was very successful. We have confirmed the
October 29th performance at BGHS.
Howard stated that plans are underway for the spring, 2006 performance. The music has been
selected and the soloist confirmed.
The band is considering increasing the amount of ensembles available. Currently, a percussion,
saxophone, and woodwind quartet already exist. A larger woodwind ensemble and a brass
ensemble are being considered to begin in January, 2006. The ensembles will improve the
dynamic of the band.
The woodwind quartet will be performing at the upcoming mayoral banquet by the Northwest
Municipal Conference on June 8th.
Bonnie indicated that a member survey will be discussed at the next Board meeting.
Linda raised a question about ticket refunds at performances. For future purposes, refunds will not
be issued.
"Limelight Cafe"
Gayle recommended scheduling three Limelight Cafes starting in the fall. Ghida indicated that
eSkape has agreed to increase the amount of profit to the Arts Commission on admission sales -
$5 will continue to be charged to attendees; $3 for the room reservation at eSkape, $2 to the Arts
Commission for receipt. Gayle will coordinate the proposed dates and follow-up with Ghida who
will send a confirmation letter to eSkape.
Bench Program — "Sittin' Pretty in BG"
Ghida reported that the benches should be delivered to the Village within the next two weeks.
Several businesses desire to keep their bench. The donated benches will be displayed around the
municipal complex. All bench owners and artists will be highlighted in the September/October
Village newsletter and the web site.
Linda suggested a poster highlighting all of the benches. Fred suggested creating a "2006
benchmark calendar" —each month would feature a painted bench. It was indicated that this
program may be too time consuming to coordinate for the art festival in July.
Bonnie indicated the Plum Grove printer sent information to her regarding a youth art calendar.
Youth and community programs would be featured in the annual calendar. Plum Grove would
solicit local businesses to help offset the cost of the printing. Plum Grove would donate the
printing.
Bonnie will obtain a cost estimate for printing a full color calendar —September, 2005 through
December, 2006. The benches would be featured on each month. Village activities would be
highlighted on the calendar such as art festival, BG days, limelight program, band concerts, vehicle
sticker sales, etc.
Buffalo Grove Invitational Fine Art Festival
The Volunteer meeting was held this evening at 6:00 p.m. Additional volunteers are needed; they
should contact the Village Manager's Office to sign-up.
The Art Fest Office has been secured at eSkape.
The posters are in —distribution is encouraged. — please sign up for a shopping center.
Congregation Beth Am has approved their parking lot for artist parking.
Other plans are underway.
Old Business
Sing Along
It was recommended that the Sing Along be coordinated with the Park District. However after
discussion, the Park District indicated that they would not be interested in a joint program due to
program demands. The Sing Along will not be pursued further.
New Business
Gayle indicated that the City of Chicago coordinated a senior showcase which was very popular,
i.e. Limelight for seniors. It was suggested that consideration be given to an adult/senior limelight
(55+). It was recommended that the program be coordinated in the spring, 2006. Linda
volunteered to accompany any interested performers. Bonnie suggested the program be called
"Senior Idol".
Village Report
No report.
Meeting Schedule
There will be no meeting in July due to the art festival. The next meeting will be held on August 3,
2005 at 7:00 p.m.
AC meetings will be held on the second Wednesday of each month - unless otherwise noted.
Meetings will be held at Village Hall, second floor conference room, unless noted.
Thank you —
The meeting concluded at 8:30 p.m.
