Calendar Printing — proposed new program Chairperson Rosen welcomed Peter Lineal and John Roth representing Plum Grove Printing. Gold suggested that the Commissioner consider a calendar printing. Plum Grove works annually with Hoffman Estates, Schaumburg and other communities on this type of initiative. A four-page report was distributed by Mr. Lineal; a copy of the report is available upon request. In summary, an art competition is coordinated by the Arts Commission for all schools in the community. A winner is selected from each grade level, and their artwork is then featured on a month of the calendar. The calendar is also filled with community meetings, events and program. Highlights of the Village, a letter from the Village President/Mayor, and an overview of the Arts Commission are also detailed in the calendar. Hoffman Estates has been printing a calendar for 10 years; they work with Harris Bank to offset their costs. Harris Bank pays for the calendar, in lieu of using the funds to print a generic calendar and distribute the gift during the holiday season. It was suggested that the Commission contact banks in the community and other businesses with holiday spending accounts and encourage them to invest in this calendar printing since their name/logo could be featured throughout the community. Lineal indicated that Plum Grove Printers would pay for the 20,000 plus, necessary copies, to distribute the entry form and introductory letter to each school in the community. The Commission suggested coordinating a calendar from September, 2006 through September or December, 2007 to coincide with the school year. Trustee Braiman suggested that the Commission work with the Chamber on this program since businesses could be contacted to help offset the cost. A subcommittee was created to pursue this initiative further. A report and recommendation will be provided to the Village Board for final consideration. 2005 - Buffalo Grove Invitational Fine Art Festival Rosen indicated that she and Ghida met with Amy Amdur last week to recap the festival. Overall, the festival was a tremendous success. Ghida thanked all the Commissioners that were present that assisted with the festival. A summary of the planning details for 2005 is available upon request. Feedback from the Arts Commission, volunteers, and Amdur staff was also compiled and is available upon request. These two documents are used in planning the next year's festival. Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band Gold reported that the Thursday performance of the Band went well; the band performed to a crowd of approximately 800 people. They continue to work on enhanced publicity of the band. Green reported that the Daily Herald will be including the Band in a publication that will extend outside of Buffalo Grove. The Band is also working on securing the holiday performances at St. Mary's, Hope Lutheran, St. Peter's, and Northwest Assembly of God. Performances dates and times will be issued when the performances are confirmed. Limelight Cafe eSkape has confirmed that the Limelight CaWs will be coordinated on November 4, February 17 & May 19. Ghida indicated that Feldgreber has requested the same financial deal as last year - $4 or the $5 admission charge; the AC would profit $1 per attendee. Robyn volunteered to follow-up with the owner of eSkape to discuss the admission fee and profit by each organization. Bench Program — "Sittin' Pretty in BG" Ghida indicated that the painted benches are being featured on Channel 6, BGTV, and on the Village's web site. We are still waiting for the Chamber and LaSalle bank to paint their benches. The benches will be highlighted in the winter Village newsletter. Old Business Adult Limelight Robyn indicated that the spoke to a representative of the JCYS regarding a proposed "adult limelight" as discussed at our last meeting. It was indicated that they are booked on Friday and Saturday evenings, although Sundays were available and a potential date could be a Sunday evening preceding a Monday holiday. Robyn will visit the JCYS to review the site and report back at the next meeting. New Business 1) Chair Rosen indicated that Lori Boxer resigned her position as Arts Commissioner due to other commitments. She pledged her support to the Arts Commission for programs such as the arts festival, limelight cafe, band programs, and other news initiatives. 2) Spray Bottle fund raiser. Fred shard with the group a spray water bottle that he used at the art festival. The bottle featured a spray nozzle that "misted" which was ideal for the hot art festival days. He purchased the bottle for $5 from Walgreen's. He suggested purchasing similar bottles and selling them at the art festival in 2006. He will conduct research regarding suppliers, printing, and cost and report back to the Commission. 3) Display case. Ghida stated that following the last meeting, Lori Boxer suggested the Village purchase a display box for the lobby of Village Hall so artwork could be displayed. Fred will review the lobby to identify where a display case could be placed, and will research the cost. 4) Fundraiser. Bonnie suggested a fundraiser from Barnes & Noble whereby the Arts Commission would promote a shop and share day (similar to Jewel's fundraisers), and a percentage of all proceeds from sales on a particular day at Barnes & Noble would go to the Arts Commission. Bonnie will invite a representative from Barnes & Noble to the next meeting to discuss the concept. Ghida suggested that we could also approach a local business about this type of incentive in an effort to shop locally and promote local business. Village Report No report. Meeting Schedule The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. AC meetings will be held on the second Wednesday of each month - unless otherwise noted. Meetings will be held at Village Hall, second floor conference room, unless noted. Thank you — The meeting concluded at 8:50 p.m. Respectfully Submitted, Ghida S.
