Welcome

Motion by Mann, second by Alaynick. Motion carried.
Chair Report
Linda expressed congratulations to Ghida for her promotion to Deputy Village Manager. The
promotion was announced as part of a reorganization of senior management this week. William
Balling, Village Manager announced his retirement after 29 years; he will be working effective
May 1 as a consultant to the Village. Bill Brimm, Assistant Village Manager will be promoted to
Manager; he has been working as the Assistant for 7 years, and as the Finance Director for the
last 29 years. Ghida will serve as the Deputy as previously mentioned.
Linda also stated that the BG Singers performed the National Anthem at the Board meeting on
January 16th as the kickoff to the National Anthem Project for 2006.
Commissioners Reports
No report.
Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band
Bonnie Gold reported that the Band will have their first Board meeting of the year this week.
Ghida indicated that she was seeking the year-end report for the Band. The report will be
included with the Arts Commission report and submitted to the Village Board.
Limelight Cafe
Fred Weissman has researched portable lighting systems to be purchased by this Commission
for use at Limelight. Fred made a motion to approve lights in the amount not to exceed $500 for
the Arts Commission. Second by Pervos. Motion carried.
Gayle summarized an e-mail that the Commission received from a resident asking for
consideration to change the day of the Limelight programs from Friday to Saturday or Sunday
since many Jewish people go to temple on Friday night. A great deal of discussion took place on
this matter. It was indicated that in the past, the AC coordinated a non-Friday limelight at the
Rotary Village Green, although it was difficult to gauge attendance due to poor weather. The
attendance on Friday nights have been very good, and it is unlikely that we could secure Sturday
night at eSkape, and Sunday night or afternoon was not worth coordinating. It was agreed to
continue the events on Friday, and possible coordinating a summer Limelight during the week.
Community Calendar Program
Ghida provided a report on the advertisements sold to date for the calendar. $250 sponsorships
are still needed!
National Anthem Project
Linda indicated that a letter has been mailed to all schools and organizations in the BG area
promoting the National Anthem Project. Included in the packet is a CD of the band's
performance of the National Anthem. The CD features a photograph taken by Fred Weissman of
an American flag flying over the USS Arizona in Pearl Harbor. Also in the packets were lyrics to
the Star Spangled Banner.
