Welcome
Linda welcomed the Commissioners. The meeting began at 7:02 pm.
Approval of Minutes, 01/18/06
Motion by Barbara Herman, second by Bonnie Gold. Motion carried.
Chair Report
Linda brought up for discussion the proposed Park District Community Center/Theater, as
described in the local news, and inquired as to whether the Village has any information on this.
As this develops, she hopes the Arts Commission could have a role in it.
Commissioners Reports
Barbara Herman reported that she has been appointed to the 50th anniversary committee to plan
for Buffalo Grove's 50th anniversary. She will act as liaison from the Arts Commission and has
begun collecting dates of various Arts Commission events that may coincide with festivities
planning.
Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band
Bonnie Gold reported that the Band is finalizing their summer concerts. Performances in
consideration are Cantigny, Wheeling, Independence Grove, and others.
It was also announced that the BGSB would not be able to receive financial help from the Arts
Commission to fund a party
Limelight Cafe
Gayle reported that there is a full schedule of bands playing on Friday evening February 17,
starting at 7:00 pm. She solicited volunteers and asked that they report at 6:00 pm.
As approved at the last meeting, Fred Weissman purchased portable lighting systems for use at
Limelight. Profit from the Limelight Cafe program were used to offset the expense.
Community Calendar Program
Susan reported that the Village has sold or traded sponsorships for this program in the following
categories (10 - $250 sponsorships; 4 $2,000 sponsorships; and 1 $3000 sponsorship).
Suggestions were made as to businesses/organizations who might be willing to be additional
$250 sponsors.
The goal is to submit all printing and images to the design firm by the end of this month.
Old Business
Linda proposed that the Commission move forward on either of the previously discussed ideas
for a future Arts Commission sponsored event. A motion was passed (made by Marilyn Alaynick,
second by Bonnie Gold) to investigate the feasibility of a kids' talent night (ages 8-14) to take
place in October 2006, possibly on a Sunday afternoon. A subcommittee of Commissioners
Alaynick, Kove, Mann, and Pervos was formed to develop this further.
Buffalo Grove Invitational Art Festival
Sandy Greenberg volunteers to serve on the jury panel to review artists for this year's festival;
she will work with Amdur's contracted personnel and staff on this endeavor. The jury will take
place at the Glen in Glenview this month.
Village Report
Susan thanked the Commissioners for their efforts and, on behalf of the Village, presented them
with Certificates of Appreciation. Congratulations to Commissioners Gold, Pervos, and Schneider
for their five years of service. All Commissioners indicated they would be attending the
Community Volunteer Recognition program at the end of this month.
Meeting Schedule
The next meeting will be held on March 8, 2006. AC meetings are typically held on the second
Wednesday of each month. Meetings will be held at Village Hall, second floor conference room,
unless noted.
Adjourn
The meeting concluded at 7:40 p.m. by a motion to adjourn from Commissioner Alaynick and
seconded by Commissioner Herman.
Respectfully Submitted,
Susan Levy
