Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band
Plans for the May 21 st concert is underway. This will be the Band's 5th spring performance.
Tickets are on sale at Village Hall.
AC volunteers for 5/21 include Rosen, Schneider, Weissman, and Neukirch.
Bonnie indicated that Howard is interested in writing a letter for the Band program book; the letter
would accompany Linda's AC Chair letter. It was agreed that Howard's letter would be included
in the program book.
Lynne Schneider will once again be compiling the program book. Thank you Lynne! She stated
that three sponsors have been previous contributors but are not on the updated list. Ghida will
follow-up with the three potential sponsors about renewals; they should be included in the May,
2006 program book. Ghida confirmed that renewal letters were mailed to all past sponsors.
Ghida stated that a photo of the Band will be featured on the front page of the May/June Village
newsletter. The newsletter is expected to be delivered to homes within the next 2 weeks.
Limelight Cafe
Plans for the May 19th Limelight Cafe are underway. Ghida issued a call for teens to sign up for
the event. Gayle provided both schools with flyers to promote the event.
AC volunteers for the event include Pervos, Alaynick, Herman, Weissman and Neukirch.
Gayle will inquire with Bob Boxer to identify if he is able to once again assist with the event.
Special thanks to all volunteers for their past assistance with this event —we look forward to the
May event.
Ghida issued a letter to eSkape to coordinate the fall 2006/2007 events; the owner has not yet
responded. Gayle will follow-up.
Community Calendar Program
Ghida thanked the committee members for reviewing the calendar entries. If anyone is interested
in viewing the photos that were selected for the calendar, please coordinate with Ghida.
The calendar is currently with the designer, Evan Hill of EH Design. A draft is expected next
month. The project is ahead of schedule. It was indicated that the calendar will be mailed similar
to a Village newsletter, via bulk delivery to every household and business in the community.
Buffalo Grove Invitational Art Festival
Plans for the art festival are underway. The Board approved the Memorandum of Understanding
with Amdur Productions. A call for volunteers has been issued. The volunteer meeting will be
held on Thursday, June 8th — 6:00 p.m. for first time volunteers and 6:45 pm for veteran
volunteers.
Village's 50th Anniversary Committee Update
Barbara reported that a number of events are being planned to celebrate the Village's 50th
anniversary in 2008. The Chair of the Committee is Village Clerk Jan Sirabian. Monthly programs
are being considered. The Committee expressed an interest in coordinating a calendar and
Barbara suggested that the AC create the calendar. Ghida recommended that we obtain
feedback on the 2006/2007 calendar before committing to the 2008 calendar. In addition, it was
suggested that the calendar has required a significant amount of staff time. An Arts Commission
project, whereby the AC members could all participate would be recommended. For example,
coordination of an art exhibit, a talent show, or similar artistic event. Everyone was asked to
brainstorm ideas and present any recommendations at the next meeting.
Old Business
Kids' talent night
Deferred to the next meeting.
New Business
No report.
Village Report
Painting the Village's Buffalo. Ghida thanked the committee members that expressed an interest
via email to paint the Village's buffalo. The buffalo is currently located next to the
community/youth center, on the northwest corner of Village Hall. Marilyn volunteered to lead the
project and Barbara and Fred offered to assist. Ghida stated that Lori Boxer also expressed an
interest in helping with this project. Marilyn will conduct research on the type of paint required for
the buffalo and explore designs to pursue to repaint the buffalo. Dates to work on the buffalo will
be identified and reported to the Commission.
Meeting Schedule
The next meeting will be held on May 10, 2006. AC meetings are typically held on the second
Wednesday of each month. Meetings will be held at Village Hall, second floor conference room,
unless noted.
Adjourn
The meeting concluded at 7:25 p.m. Motion by Weissman to adjourn, second by Herman.
