MEETING MINUTES
Wednesday, October 11, 2006

Welcome
Linda welcomed the commissioners and guests. The meeting began at 7:03 p.m.
Approval of Minutes, 10-13-06
Motion by Barbara Herman second by Fred Weissman. Motion carried.
Chair Report
Linda Rosen informed the commission that the Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band will be honored
at the October 23, 2006 Village Board Meeting in recognition of their 5th anniversary.
Stevenson High School is creating a sculpture garden. There are different levels of sponsorship
and Linda discussed the possibly of the Arts Commission making a donation to this project. This
will be discussed at a later date.
Limelight Cafe
Gayle Pervous reported that the next Limelight Cafe is scheduled for Friday, November 3rd at
eSkape. The proceeds from that event will be donated to the Elliott Cellini Healing Fund. Gayle
informed the committee that Bill Feldgraber, eSkape, has agreed to match the donation. There
will also be a jar for additional contributions from the attendees that evening. Susan Levy, staff
member, will coordinate the donation to Elliott's family.
Volunteers for the evening are Gayle, Barbara Herman, Fred Weissmann, Carol Berman, Chris
Gibson and Dan Olbur. Bob Boxer will assist with the sound system for the program.
Little Limelight
Robyn Kove reported that the October 6th auditions were a success and that all those
participating were invited to perform at Little Limelight on Friday, October 27th at Tripp School.
All participants will receive a certificate from the Village and a free two week membership to
Forest Grove Health Club. The committee is also looking into presenting each participant with a
rose, either real or chocolate.
Volunteers for the evening are Robyn, Linda Rosen, Gayle Pervous, Fred Weissman, and Chris
Gibson. Bob Boxer will assist with the sound system for the program.
Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band
Bonnie Gold reported that the concert will be held on Saturday, October 28th at Buffalo Grove
High School. Cynthia Arden will be the guest performer for the evening. Lynn Schneider will be
doing the program for the performance.
Volunteers for the evening are Lynn Schneider and Linda Rosen.
The Illinois Arts Council awarded a grant to the band in the amount of $940
Buffalo Grove Invitational Art Festival
Linda reported that Sunshine Artists Magazine rated the Buffalo Grove Fine Arts Festival 7th in
the country. The artists, who subscribe to this magazine, rate more than 10,000 festivals in the
country.
Village's 50th Anniversary Committee Update
Barbara Herman reported on various events the committee has planned for the 50th anniversary
celebration. The kickoff weekend starts with a dinner on March 7th and on March 8th a community
event. Other activities for the year include a concert featuring the Buffalo Grove Symphonic
Band and Buffalo Grove Singers which will include an ice cream social, a sock hop, car show,
community calendar and various other events.
Old Business
Rock Garden — The committee discussed the possibility of using this project as part of the next
Art Festival. The location of the Rock Garden has not been determined.
Buffalos — Fred is waiting for an estimate on the cost of the plaster buffalos. This project could
also be a part of the children's art tent at the Art Festival.
New Business
Laura Ander presented the concept of Tribute Cards which would be used as a fundraising
project for the Arts Commission. A discussion was held on the design of the cards and how they
would be marketed to the community. Laura and Linda will provide a business plan to the
committee for further review.
Village Report
Carol Berman reported that the Village buffalo is repainted and at home on the front lawn of
Village Hall. A special thanks was given to the Public Works Department for repainting the
buffalo.
Meeting Schedule
The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 15th, 2006. The January meeting has
also been rescheduled to January 17h. Meetings will be held at Village Hall, second floor
conference room, unless noted.
