2006-11-15 - Arts Commission - Minutes Board or Commission: ❑Arts commission Document Type: ❑A e g nda 0 Minutes Meeting ate: 11/15/2006 Type of Meeting: ❑ Rescheduled Regular Meeting ARTS COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES Wednesday, November 15, 2006 7:00 p.m., Village Hall, Second Floor Conference Room Present: Linda Rosen, Chairman Fred Weissman Marilyn Alaynik Bonnie Gold Barbara Herman Gayle Pervos Lynne Schneider Absent: Susan Mann Trustee Liaison Trustee Jeff Braiman - present Trustee Bruce Kahn - present Staff Liaison Carol Berman Welcome Linda welcomed the commissioners and trustees. The meeting began at 7:05 p.m. Approval of Minutes, 10-13-06 Motion by Barbara Herman second by Lynn Schneider. Motion carried. Chair Report Linda Rosen informed the commission that Robyn Kove has resigned from the Arts Commission. The committee discussed the addition of Chris Gibson and Dan Olbur to the committee. Sandy Greenberg, who resigned from the committee because she moved from Buffalo Grove, also expressed interest in staying on the committee. The Village Board for is considering changes in the policy to allow Chris and Sandy to serve on the committee. Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band Bonnie Gold reported on the October 28th concert. It was an excellent concert but attendance was down from previous events. The committee suggested that the band enhance their marketing for the concerts. Suggestions included developing an email mailing list, outreach to the senior facilities in the community, and sending information to the music educators within our community. Bonnie will bring these suggestions to the band. Trustees Kahn and Braiman reported on the meeting that they had with Howard Green and Ghida Neukirch. Another band survey will be done in January. Limelight Cafe Gayle Pervous reported on the November 3rd Limelight Cafe. All of the bands performing that evening represented students from Buffalo Grove and Stevenson High Schools. Proceeds from the event were donated to the Elliott Cellini Healing Fund. The profits from the admission fees totaled $140, matching funds of $140 were contributed by Bill Feldgraber of eSkape and additional donations collected that evening were $113 for a total donation of$393. Gayle mentioned that there are other ways to market this event and discussed putting the next Limelight, scheduled for February 2, 2007, in Facebook. Gayle thanked the volunteers for the evening - Barbara Herman, Fred Weissmann, Carol Berman, Sandy Greenberg, Chris Gibson and Dan Olbur. A special thanks to Bob Boxer who assisted with the sound system for the program. Little Limelight Linda Rosen reported on the success of the First Little Limelight that was held on October 27th. The committee recommended that this program be repeated again next year in October or November. Linda had made recommendations for changes in the audition system and the performance. Linda thanked the volunteers for the evening — Robyn Kove, Gayle Pervous, Fred Weissman, Chris Gibson, Dan Olbur, community volunteer Steve Bulmash and Carol Berman. A special thanks to Bob Boxer and family for their assistance with the sound system for the program. Buffalo Grove Invitational Art Festival No Report Village's 50th Anniversary Committee Update No Report Old Business Rock Garden — No Report Buffalos — No Report. Tribute Cards — Linda Rosen reported that Laura Ander is working on a design for the cards. Once that has been established she will submit a business plan for approval by the committee and the Village Board. New Business Lynn Schneider asked for a volunteer from the Arts Commission to assist the Chamber of Commerce in selecting a scholarship winner. Marilyn Alaynik volunteered to serve on this committee. Village Report Carol Berman reported on her meeting with Karla Kunzeman, Legislative Liaison to the Illinois Arts Council. Karla was in Village Hall, along with Rep. Sidney Mathis, presenting a grant to the Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band. Ms. Kunzeman mentioned that the Arts Commission should look into funding from her agency for some of the Arts Commission projects. Gayle Pervous volunteered to explore the grants available and to see if any of our programs qualify for assistance. Meeting Schedule Barbara Herman made a motion to cancel the December meeting. Lynn Schneider seconded the motion. The motion passed. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2006. This rescheduled date was approved at the October meeting. Adjourn Marilyn Alaynik made a motion to adjourn. The motion was seconded by Bonnie GOLD. The meeting adjourned at 8:03 pm.
