Welcome
The meeting was called to order at 7:05PM. Since Linda Rosen and Fred Weissman were not
able to attend the meeting Gayle Pervos volunteered to chair the meeting.
Approval of Minutes
The motion to approve the February 7, 2007 minutes was made by Barbara Herman and
seconded by Marilyn Alaynick. The motion was unanimously approved.
Chair Report
Barbara Herman informed the committee that today was Carol Berman's 20`h anniversary with
the Village. Congratulations were given to Carol by the committee members.
Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band
Bonnie Gold reported that the 6th annual band concert will be held on Saturday, April 28th at
Stevenson High School. The program, "Something Old, Something New..." will feature Gene
Pokorny, Principal Tuba of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, as the guest performer. Not only
will Mr. Pokorny play with the Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band for the entire program but will also
do a feature presentation of "Tubby the Tuba" with Elliott Hartstein, guest narrator. Lynne
Schneider has started to work on the programs for this concert. Volunteers for this concert are
Lynn Schenider, Susan Mann, Marilyn Alaynick and Gayle Pervos.
The committee discussed the increased fees by Stevenson High School for the use of their
facilities. Sandy Greenberg will be discussing this situation with a member of the Stevenson
School Board and report at the next meeting.
Ghida Neukirch, Deputy Village Manager, and Linda Rosen have approved the music for the
Fall Concert. The theme of the program will be movies and dance. No date has been scheduled
but it will be held at Buffalo Grove High School.
On Thursday, March 15h, the Symphonic Band will be doing a joint concert with the students at
Meridian School. The program will begin at 7:OOPM.
Limelight Cafe
The next Limelight Cafe is April 27th at eSkape. Marilyn Alaynick, Sandy Greenberg and Carol
Berman volunteered to work this event.
Gayle has asked staff to draft a waiver letter, to be signed by the leader of the group, and
signed by their parent, which describes the code of behavior and also acceptance of
responsibility for any damages that may occur due to their performance.
A quote to purchase our own sound equipment had been obtained by Dan Olbur. In addition
another quote is being developed by Jeff Lip. When these quotes are available they will be
taken to staff. This sound equipment will be used for Limelight Cafe, Little Limelight and any
other projects that need this type of equipment.
Little Limelight
The dates for the next Little Limelight were set for October 5, 2007 (Auditions) and October 19th
(Performance). There was a discussion as to the best method of advertising this event. The
committee will continue to try and get distribution of flyers through the school district, but will
also try and have information available for Buffalo Grove Days and local newspapers (Village,
Herald and Pioneer Press).
Gayle volunteered to co-chair this event. Barbara Herman and Marilyn Alaynick volunteered to
assist.
Buffalo Grove Invitational Art Festival
The committee had approved Project Linus as the special project for the art tent. Laura Ander
and Lori Lapping will chair this event. A $400 sponsorship for this program has been obtained
from Arthur J. Rogers & Co. This project would be considered as the main or a supplemental
program in the Family Art Tent. The committee also wanted to obtain publicity for this event
from the local newspapers. The goal is to have over 1,000 squares of muslin available for
decoration.
The Art Commission will provide goodie bags for the artists. The bag will consist of a water
bottle, a map of Buffalo Grove, information on local restaurants and coupons for some of the
restaurants. Lynn Schneider will contact the local restaurants to see if they would like to offer
coupons for the days of July13-15th to cover the festival time period. Lynn suggested that we
contact a local bank to provide the bags for this project.
Sandy Greenberg and Chris Gibson represented the Village at the Art Fair Jury that was held by
Amdur Productions. Sandy said they saw over 4,500 slides of artists and their work. They, along
with artists and gallery owners, voted on the artists that will be invited to the Amdur Production
Art Fairs (with the exception of Port Clinton).
Village's 50th Anniversary Committee Update
Barbara Herman reported that there will be a joint concert with the Buffalo Grove Singers and
the Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band on August 3, 2008. Prior to the concert the committee is
planning to have an Ice Cream Social.
Old Business
Tribute Cards — Gayle Pervos asked the group for a consensus on the Tribute Cards. The
committee members felt they wanted to move ahead with the cards, have a simple design on
the front cover, and have one card printed that could be used for any event. Gayle will contact
Laura Ander, who has volunteered to chair this project, to seek a redesign. Once the design has
been approved the committee can obtain quotes and make a proposal to the Village for
approval of this project. The cards will be sold at events such as the Art Festival, Buffalo Grove
Days, Symphonic Band concerts, etc.
Illinois Arts Council —The Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band received a Program Grant from the
IAC this year and will be applying for another one for the coming year. Gayle Pervos reported
that the only other type of grant the commission could qualify for would be a Special Events
Grant. Currently we do not have any proposed programs that meet the criteria thus we will not
be applying for any additional funding.
