The motion to approve the March 7, 2007 minutes was made by Barbara Herman and seconded
by Lynn Schneider. The motion was unanimously approved.
Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band
Bonnie Gold announced the birth of Allison Rakickas' daughter.
Bonnie reported that the 6th annual band concert will be held on Saturday, April 28th at
Stevenson High School. The program, "Something Old, Something New..." will feature Gene
Pokorny, Principal Tuba of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, as the guest performer. Not only
will Mr. Pokorny play with the Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band for the entire program but will also
do a feature presentation of "Tubby the Tuba" with Elliott Hartstein, guest narrator. Lynne
Schneider has completed the program for this concert.
Bonnie distributed postcards advertising the concert and asked committee members to assist in
distributing them to the local community. Lynn mentioned that the posters that were distributed
for the concert made no mention of the Village or the Arts Commission. She asked Bonnie to
request that for future concerts this information is added to the posters and other advertising.
Volunteers for this concert are Lynn Schneider, Susan Mann, Sandy Greenberg and Gayle
Pervos.
Summer concert dates are:
7/04 Rotary Green
7/21 Wheaton
7/29 Long Grove Heritage Concert
8/19 Cantigny
The Symphonic Band has established a fundraising committee. Currently there is no date
confirmed with Buffalo Grove High School for the Fall concert.
Limelight Cafe
The next Limelight Cafe is April 27th at eSkape. Gayle Pervos, Fred Weissman, Marilyn
Alaynick, Sandy Greenberg, Chris Gibson, Dan Olbur and Carol Berman volunteered to work
this event. Bob Boxer will assist with the equipment.
For the first time the head of each group performing will be asked to sign a waiver holding them
responsible for any damage that might occur to our equipment and agreeing to the terms and
regulations for performers.
The committee decided to purchase our own sound equipment Jeff Lipp. A donation of $400
has been received from Sanders Court Pediatrics for a portion of the equipment. This donation,
with the funds that have been saved from previous Limelight performances, provides all the
required funds. At this time no portable microphones have been purchased.
Little Limelight
The proposed dates for the next Little Limelight were set for October 5, 2007 (Auditions) and
October 19th (Performance). The proposed location is Tripp School where the program was held
last year. School District 102 will not confirm these dates until sometime in August.
Gayle volunteered to co-chair this event. Barbara Herman and Marilyn Alaynick volunteered to
assist.
Buffalo Grove Invitational Art Festival
Lori Lapping and Laura Ander, Chairpersons for Project Linus, provided a status report for the
committee. Lori reviewed the mission of Project Linus. We will have to provide muslin and fabric
markers. Lori and Laura will contact Michael's and JoAnn's Fabrics to see if we can obtain a
discount for the materials required for the project The committee decided to have 1,500 squares
of muslin available for decoration. Any squares that are left over can be donated to the Project
Linus organization for future projects. There will also be a jar for people would like to make a
cash donate to this organization. The Project Linus logo will be added to the publicity for the Art
Fair. A donation of$400 has been received by Arthur J. Rogers & Co. for this project.
Indeck, in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce, will host the preview party on Thursday,
July 12h. Outback will do the catering.
The bags for the artists will contain a village map, water bottle and information on local
restaurants. Lynn Schneider has sent flyers to local businesses to see if they would like to
participate with coupons that would be added to the bags. Businesses that would like to
participate are Winberie's, Domino's Pizza, Nino's, Pastabilities, Chocolate Marvels and Merle
Norman Cosmetics. Lynn hopes to have more responses before the festival.
The Art Festival volunteer meeting is Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at 7:OOPM
Village's 50th Anniversary Committee Update
Barbara Herman reported that there will be a joint concert with the Buffalo Grove Singers and
the Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band on August 3, 2008. They have requested Buffalo Grove
High School for this date but it had not been confirmed. Prior to the concert the committee is
planning to have an Ice Cream Social. The kickoff dinner for the committee is March 7, 2008
which will be by invitation only.
A motion was made to use proceeds from the Art Festival this year for a commission piece for
the 50th anniversary. Marilyn Alaynick made the motion and Susan Mann seconded. The motion
was passed unanimously. The committee suggested a piece of sculpture for the Village
campus.
The Arts Commission project for the 50th Anniversary, and in conjunction with the Art Festival for
2008, will be the rock garden.
Old Business
Tribute Cards — The committee discussed the design of the proposed Tribute Cards. A design
that was more muted in tone was requested by the committee. Laura Ander will take this back to
the artist and have something for the May meeting in addition to a proposed business plan.
Indian Trail Library Display — Chris Gibson passed out business cards, used for publicity, to
let artists know that exhibition space is available at the library. The cards noted that this project
was publicized in cooperation with the Buffalo Grove Arts Commission. It was suggested that a
card be added to the bags that will be given to the artists at the Art Fair.
New Business
New Year's Eve Activity — Dan Olbur could not be at the meeting but reported that he had
contacted the Arboretum and found that the date was available at that time. This event is in the
exploratory stage and the concept is being discussed by the committee.
