Chair Report Linda Rosen reported that on Monday, May 14h, the Village taped a program on the Art Festival for the People, Places and Issues segment for Channel 6. Amy Amdur, along with several artists who will be part of this year's Art Festival, appeared with President Hartstein. She also thanked Fred Weissman and Gayle Pervos for chairing the meetings in her absence the last two months. Linda also thanked the Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band for a wonderful concert on April 28h Approval of Minutes The motion to approve the April 11, 2007 minutes was made by Barbara Herman and seconded by Marilyn Alaynick. Gayle Pervos had a correction to the minutes to indicate that the Arts Commission would be establishing the business plan for the Tribute Cards, not Laura Ander. The corrections were accepted by the committee. The motion was unanimously approved. Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band Bonnie Gold reported that the Spring Symphonic Band Concert, held on Saturday, April 28th at Stevenson High School, was very successful and well attended The program, "Something Old, Something New..." featured Gene Pokorny, Principal Tuba of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, as the guest performer, and Village President Elliot Hartstein was the guest narrator for "Tubby the Tuba." Susan Mann, an Arts Commission member, was also honored that night for her work on behalf of the band. Mr. Pokorny wrote a note of thanks to Howard Green and the band stating what an honor it was for he and his wife to play with the band. The question was raised if Allison Rakickas, the Associate Conductor, got an honorarium. Bonnie was going to look into this and discuss it at the band board meeting. The committee discussed the possibility of a membership fee for band members. Several committee members were going to research other community bands and report back to Carol Berman. Carol will compile this information and send it on to committee members. Summer concert dates are: 7/04 Rotary Green 7/21 Wheaton 7/29 Long Grove Heritage Concert 8/19 Cantigny Fall concert is scheduled for October 27h Limelight Cafe Gayle Pervos reported on the last Limelight of the season which was held on April 27h It was a very successful Limelight, the performers were excellent and a lot of teens and adults attended this event. Jeff Lipp delivered the new sound equipment and it was used that evening. Gayle suggested that we request a new financial agreement with eSkape that would provide them up to $1,000 for the evening with the remainder of the funds going to the Art Commission. The Buffalo Grove Park District will be holding a Battle of the Bands. Gayle suggested that we share our email list of bands to the Park District to provide another opportunity for the bands to perform. Little Limelight The proposed dates for the next Little Limelight were set for October 5, 2007 (Auditions) and October 19" (Performance). Requests have been made for both Tripp and Ivy Hall schools in hopes that one of them will be able to accommodate the program for these dates. Gayle Pervos will chair this event and Barbara Herman and Marilyn Alaynick volunteered to assist. Adult Limelight Discussion was held on having an Adult Limelight evening sometime in the first quarter of 2008 at eSkape. A suggestion was made to call this "A Night at the Round Table." Chris Gibson and Marilyn Alaynick volunteered to co-chair this event. Buffalo Grove Invitational Art Festival Project Linus is on target. Lori Lapping and Laura Ander are chairing this event. The bags for the artists will be donated by the Bank of Buffalo Grove. Included in the bags will be maps of Buffalo Grove, water bottles and coupons to various local restaurants and other businesses which can be used that weekend. Indeck, in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce, will host the preview party on Thursday, July 12h. Outback will do the catering and Binny's will provide the wine. The Volunteer meeting for the Art Festival is Wednesday, June 6th at Village Hall at 7:OOPM. Village's 50th Anniversary Committee Update Barbara Herman reported that there will be a joint concert with the Buffalo Grove Singers and the Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band on August 3, 2008. The site selected for this event is Stevenson High School. The concert will be at 2:OOPM with an Ice Cream Social to be held between 3:00-4:OOPM. Cost of this event is $5 and children under 12 are free. The Arts Commission project for the 50th Anniversary, and in conjunction with the Art Festival for 2008, will be the rock garden. Linda Rosen discussed the proposal for a commission sculpture. A discussion was held on this issue and examples of one artists work were discussed. Sandy Greenberg made the motion to take $2,000 from the 2007 Art Festival proceeds and $2,000 from the 2008 festival to purchase a sculpture in honor of the Village's 50`h anniversary. The motion was seconded by Dan Olbur and passed unanimously. Old Business Tribute Cards — The committee discussed a new design that was proposed for the Tribute Cards. A motion was made to approve this design by Gayle Pervous and seconded by Bonnie Gold. The motion was unanimously approved. Lynne Schneider will get two (2) quotes for printing 1,000 cards. The cards will be packaged in groups of ten (10) in a clear plastic wrap. Once the cost of printing has been established the committee can determine the cost of the cards and propose a business plan for approval by the Village Board. If approved, the Tribute Cards would be sold at the Art Festival, Buffalo Grove Days, Limelight events, and other venues. New Business New Year's Eve Activity — Dan Olbur said that the Arboretum was available. This project is still under discussion. Village Report No Report Meeting Schedule The next meeting will be held June 6th at 6:OOPM. A motion was made by Marilyn Alaynick to hold our meeting prior to the Art Festival Volunteer Meeting. The motion was seconded by Barbara Herman and unanimously approved. Adjourn The meeting concluded at 8:10 PM. Motion was made by Marilyn Alaynick and seconded by Lynn Schneider.
