The meeting was called to order at 7:03PM.
Chair Report
Linda Rosen welcomed Lori Lapping & Laura Ander, two new members of the Arts Commission.
She also thanked all the Arts Commission members who worked the Art Festival which was a
wonderful success. Linda reported on the 8/6/07 Village Board Meeting where the Art Festival
volunteers were recognized and thanked those committee members who were able to attend
that evening. Congratulations to Fred Weissman, Vice Chairperson, who was recognized by the
Friends of the Park, Buffalo Grove Park District, as Volunteer of the Year. Fred will be honored
at a ceremony as part of the National Night Out Program.
Approval of Minutes
A motion was made by Barbara Herman to approve the 6/6/07 minutes. The motion was
seconded by Fred Weissman and unanimously approved.
Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band
Bonnie Gold reported that attendance has been down at summer practices. The band is
seeking additional members, especially in certain sections. The committee suggested that the
band develop a strong social committee which will help to sustain members and develop a
sense of ownership. The committee also suggested that they advertise for new members and
develop a strong publicity committee for future concerts.
Howard Green had asked for assistance in finding alternate sites for performances, especially
for the March Quintet Concert. The committee had suggested St. Mary's Church, Kingwood
Methodist Church and Hope Lutheran Church as possible sites. They asked that a member of
the band board follow through with these suggestions.
The suggestion to charge the members due was not pursued by the band board.
Howard requested that a new file cabinet be purchased from the band funds on file.
The fall concert, "Movies and Dance," will be held on 10/27/07 at 7:OOPM at Buffalo Grove High
School. Tickets are $10 in advance ($8 for students and seniors) and $12 at the door.
Limelight Cafe
The scheduled dates for the next season of Limelight Cafe are 11/09/07, 2/15/08 and 4/25/08 at
eSkape. Susan Levy will post the sign-up sheet at Buffalo Grove High School and Gayle Pervos
will post it at Stevenson.
Little Limelight
Gayle Pervos informed the committee that the dates for the 2007 Little Limelight were set for
10/06/07 (Auditions) and 10/19/07 (Performance) at Tripp School. Susan Mann coordinated this
activity with District 102 and was successful in getting the fees waived for this event.
Carol Berman will obtain approval from the local school districts to distribute flyers to the
schools. These flyers will then be distributed to the students. This program will also be
advertised in the Village Newsletter.
Laura Ander volunteered to try and get a local business to donate cookies to for the
contestants.
Adult Limelight
Gayle Pervos reported that she is trying to find a facility for a proposed Adult Limelight program
to be held in January. She approached eSkape, site of the Limelight Cafe programs and was
told that we could not use the facility for this program.
Buffalo Grove Invitational Art Festival
The festival was a wonderful success. The weather was perfect, good attendance and the
artists appeared to be happy. Some suggestions for next year:
• Have a Family Art Tent that is staffed by Art Commission volunteers. This tent should
be in a prominent place in the festival and have adequate signage.
• Several of the Arts Commission members should have walkie-talkies available,
provided from Amdur Productions, to enhance communications.
• Age appropriate chairs for children in the Art Tent.
• Have story time for smaller children
• Possibility of including a music program for the children
• Continue the solicitation of water from area merchants. Kudos to Anne Marin, of the
OVM Staff, who obtained multiple cases of water for distribution to the artists.
Village's 50th Anniversary Committee Update
No Report.
Tribute Cards
The Tribute Cards were printed and available for sale at the Art Festival. There were 25
packages sold at the festival and an additional 4 packages afterward. The cost of printing was
$377, total collected to-date is $290, for a balance of ($87).
Laura Ander will chair this project. Additional cards will be available for sale at Little Limelight,
Limelight and the Symphonic Band concerts. The cards will be advertised in the Village
Newsletter. Additional cards can be ordered by emailing BGArtsa-vbg.orq or by calling the
Office of the Village Manager. These emails and calls will be directed to Laura. In addition, a
single card can be mailed for a minimum donation of $3.00.
New Business
Sculpture — Linda had asked all members of the committee to seek information on artists who
could do a possible commission piece for our 50th anniversary. This will be discussed in detail at
the September meeting.
Village Report
Carol Berman stated that she was sending a new rooster to committee members with updated
information.
There was discussion of moving the meeting to the Lower Level Conference Room due to the
size of the committee but the members felt they wanted to continue meeting in the OVM
Conference Room.
Carol discussed the possibility of incorporating the Little City Organization, specifically their
Center for the Arts, in a future Arts Commission event.
Meeting Schedule
The next meeting has been rescheduled for 9/19/07 at 7:OOPM. Linda also asked the members
to come to the next meeting prepared to discuss ideas for the coming year.
Adjourn
The meeting concluded at 8:25PM. The motion was made by Sandy Greenberg and seconded
by. Fred Weissman. The motion was unanimously approved.
Sincerely,
Carol Berman
