Welcome
The meeting was called to order at 7:03 PM.
Chair Report
Linda Rosen thanked everyone who assisted with the Little Limelight program. There was
wonderful publicity for the event and it was a well attended event. Linda received several letters
and emails from parents thanking the Arts Commission and the Village of Buffalo Grove for
hosting such a wonderful program for their children. A special thank you was given to Trustee
Braiman for attending the event.
Linda also reported on the Illinois Municipal League's Innovation Award program and our
participation in this event with the Limelight Programs. Buffalo Grove did not win the award but
the programs brought a lot of interest to the activities of the Arts Commission.
Approval of Minutes
A motion was made to approve the minutes from the October 10th meeting by Bonnie Gold and
seconded by Barbara Herman, The motion was unanimously approved.
Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band
The fall concert, "Movies and Dance," was held on 10/27/07 at Buffalo Grove High School. The
program was excellent but the concert was not well attended. Howard Green, the Music
Director, attended the meeting and mentioned the sponsors did not get their tickets for the
concert. He suggested that we provide them with twice as many tickets for the spring concert.
Howard mentioned that he is looking for a volunteer from the community that would assist the
band in marketing and fundraising.
The commission offered the following ideas to raise attendance at the concerts:
• Market the program to seniors in the Village and surrounding areas. This would
include Cambridge-on-the-Lake, Belmont Village, Sunrise Assisted Living and
Sedgebrook.
• Contact local band directors from the various schools in the community. Offer a
free student admission with a paid adult admission.
• Market to the Wheeling and Buffalo Grove Park Districts Senior Citizen programs.
Allison Rakickas, Associate Conductor, resigned. Howard will select a new conductor.
The band is the recipient of a $610 award from the Illinois Arts Council for the coming year.
Sandy Greenberg volunteered to attend the next band board meeting with Bonnie Gold.
Future concert schedule:
11/25/07 —Christmas Concert— St. Peter's Church, Northbrook
12/02/07 —Christmas Concert- Church of the Good Shepard, Prospect Heights
12/09/07 —Christmas Concert—St. Mary's Church, Buffalo Grove
03/30/08 —Annual Small Ensemble Recital —Vernon Area Public Library

Limelight Cafe
The 11/09/07 program was canceled due to the fact that only two (2) bands were set to perform.
The next scheduled Limelight Cafe is 02/15/08.
Little Limelight
Gayle Pervos reported on the very successful program. There is a CD with the photos from the
program. It was suggested that we incorporate some of these pictures into the Village
Newsletter and other events for the Village.
Adult Limelight
Gayle reported that the Adult Limelight program will be held on 01/26/08 at Alcott Center. This
program will be a joint venture with the Buffalo Grove Park District. Information on this program
is going into the Village Newsletter and the Park District brochure. Gayle also distributed flyers
and requested the committee members to post them throughout the Village.
Buffalo Grove Invitational Art Festival
Carol Berman reported on the 10/30/07 meeting with Amy Amdur and a member of her staff to
review the summer festival and to begin planning for next year.
There are two additions to the festival for next year: Binny's will be doing a Wine Tasting. We
also plan to invite some of the Little Limelight performers to perform on the music Stage.
The committee discussed the suggestion from Amdur Productions to Host an Artist. This is a
program whereby residents of the community house an artist for the duration of the festival.
After discussion the Arts Commission members agreed not to pursue this suggestion.
Chris Gibson and Sandy Greenberg will act as the representatives from the Arts Commission to
attend the Amdur Productions Jury in selection of artists for the coming year. The Event will be
held on February 1, 2008, at the Highland Park Country Club.
Village's 50th Anniversary Committee Update
Barbara Herman reported on the activity of the 50th Anniversary Committee. She mentioned that
invitations would be sent to commission members for the kickoff dinner.
Note Cards
No report.
Sculpture
The Village is considering commissioning a piece of sculpture for the 50th Anniversary which will
be located on the municipal campus. Sandy Greenberg will be chairing this project for the
committee with the assistance of Fred Weissman.
A sum of $35,000 was requested from the Village Board to go toward this piece. This would be
in addition to any funds raised by the Arts Commission from proceeds of the Art Fair, Tribute
Cards and possible sale of bricks. Ghida Neukirck, Deputy Village Manager, is preparing a
Request for Proposal to send to artists.
Staff has narrowed the location of the proposed sculpture to be located either at the NE corner
of Lake Cook Rd. and Raupp Blvd. or in front of Village Hall near the flagpole.
Carol Berman reported on her meeting with Amy Amdur and Omri Amrany, a local sculptor.
Omri made a proposal to the Village however the committee wanted to continue to obtain
proposals from other artists.
Old Business
No Report
New Business
Linda Rosen discussed the concept of a youth leadership group that would assist the Arts
Commission with its programming. This group would consist of high school students who
showed an interest in the arts. They would possibly meet a %2 hour to an hour before the main
Arts Commission meeting.
Village Report
Carol discussed the Illinois Arts Council Arts-in-Education Residency Application with the
commission. After discussion it was agreed that it did not fall into the area that we cover with
our programs and we could not apply for this type of funding.
Meeting Schedule

01/09/08 at 7:OOPM.
