MEETING MINUTES
Wednesday, January 9, 2008

The meeting was called to order at 7:05 PM.
Chair Report
Linda congratulated the Village of Buffalo Grove on being named one of the top 50 places in the
United States to raise children by Business Week Magazine. It was a wonderful honor to be in
this group. Although Buffalo Grove came in 30th overall it ranked 1- in the nation for recreational
and cultural activities.
Approval of Minutes
A motion was made to approve the minutes from the November 14, 2007 meeting by Sandy
Greenberg and seconded by Marilyn Alaynick. The motion was unanimously approved.
Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band
Due to personal reasons Bonnie Gold will be taking a hiatus from the Symphonic Band Board.
Sandy Greenberg volunteered to attend the next meeting in February to represent the Arts
Commission.
The band is the recipient of a $610 award from the Illinois Arts Council for the coming year.
The Annual Small Ensemble Recital will be held on March 30th at the Vernon Area Public Library
On April 26th the 7th Annual Spring Concert will be held at Stevenson High School. The program
"Something Funny Happened on the Way to the Band Concert," will explore humor in
music. Admission - $10 in Advance, $12 at the Door, $8 at all times for seniors and Students
with I D.
Limelight Cafe
The next Limelight Cafe will be held on February 15th at eSkape. To-date four (4) bands have
signed up to perform that night and they are all bands that are new to this venue.
The committee needs assistance with the sound equipment since Fred Weissman and Bob
Boxer will not be able to attend.
There was a discussion to cancel the November Limelight due to conflicts with the school
schedule and lack of interest. The motion was made by Gayle Pervos to cancel and seconded
by Fred Weissman. The motion was unanimously approved.
Volunteers for the February 15th Limelight are Sandy Greenberg, Laura Ander, Chris Gibson,
Marilyn Alaynick and Carol Berman.
Little Limelight
No report.
Adult Limelight
Gayle reported that the Adult Limelight program is scheduled for 01/26/08 at Alcott Center. This
program will be a joint venture with the Buffalo Grove Park District. Information on the program
was in the Village Newsletter and the Park District brochure. Newspaper articles will be
appearing in the Countryside and Daily Herald next week featuring this event.
Currently there are only six (6) performers signed up for the program. If we do not have at least
fifteen (15) by January 18" the program will be canceled.
Buffalo Grove Invitational Art Festival
Chris Gibson and Sandy Greenberg will act as the representatives from the Arts Commission to
attend the Amdur Productions Jury in February.
The Arts Commission project for the festival is the rock garden. In addition, some of the Little
Limelight performers will be invited to perform on the main stage.
A general discussion was held on the possibility of having a winter art festival. No decision was
made on this project.
Village's 50th Anniversary Committee Update
The Arts Commission congratulated the 50th Anniversary Committee on the wonderful calendars
that were sent to all the residents.
Note Cards
There was a discussion on how to market the note cards. In addition to the Art Festival,
Symphonic Band concerts and other Arts Commission activities, a suggestion was made to ask
Village staff and the Park District if the cards could be sold at the Buffalo Grove Singers
performances.
Sculpture
The RFP has been sent to various sculptors and the deadline for submission is February 8h
More information will be available at the next meeting.

Village Report
Carol Berman informed the committee that the concept of a Youth Leadership Program was
approved by the Board. The suggestion was made to market this program to churches,
synagogues, and local high schools.
The next meeting all commission members should wear their black Arts Commission shirts so
that we can get a picture of the commission members.
Carol reminded the committee members that the annual Volunteer Appreciation Reception will
be held on Sunday, January 27th at the Arboretum at 1:30PM. Barbara Herman and Susan
Mann will be honored for their 5 years of service with the commission.
Meeting Schedule
The next meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, 02/13/08 at 7:OOPM.

The meeting concluded at 7:55PM. The motion was made by Marilyn Alaynick and seconded by
Lori Lapping. The motion was unanimously approved.
