Welcome
The meeting was called to order at 7:05 PM.
Approval of Minutes
A motion was made to approve the minutes from the January 9, 2008 meeting by Barbara
Herman and seconded by Marilyn Alaynick. The motion was unanimously approved.
Chair Report
Linda thanked all of the committee members who worked so hard on Adult Limelight.
She suggested the Arts Commission form subcommittees that would be responsible for:
hospitality, publicity, sound and lighting, etc. Linda requested that the committee members think
about the areas of responsibility and come to the next meeting ready to discuss this topic in
detail.
Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band
The Annual Small Ensemble Recital will be held on March 30th at the Vernon Area Public Library
On April 26th the 7th Annual Spring Concert will be held at Stevenson High School. The program
"Something Funny Happened on the Way to the Band Concert," will explore humor in
music. Admission - $10 in Advance, $12 at the Door, $8 at all times for seniors and Students
with I D.
Howard Green addressed the committee regarding some proposed changes in the band
schedule. Typically the band plays a series of concerts in the summer at various locations
throughout the suburbs. For the year 2009 they would like have 4-5 summer concerts at one
location on a specific night, possibly Monday not to conflict with the Rotary Green or the Park
District concerts. Ideally they would be looking for a site where they can have the concert and
then move to a building where they can practice for about an hour. Howard suggested a
possible partnership with Wheeling since they have a park with a building that could be used as
a practice facility.
Jim Kornfeld is the new publicity chairperson for the band. Sandy Greenberg is currently serving
as the Arts Commission liaison (in Bonnie Gold's absence) to the band board meetings.
Limelight Cafe
The next Limelight Cafe will be held on February 15th at eSkape. Five (5) bands have signed up
for this event. Box Boxer has offered his assistance with the sound equipment.
Volunteers for the February 15th Limelight are Laura Ander, Chris Gibson, Marilyn Alaynick,
Barbara Herman and Carol Berman. In addition, there will be some student volunteers.
Little Limelight
A decision was made to expand the Little Limelight program to two nights to accommodate
more students and have shorter performance programs. Both events will be held in the fall —
possibly just a few weeks apart.
Adult Limelight
Gayle was pleased to report that it was a wonderful and well attended event. Feedback from the
audience was very positive — feedback from the performers, in most cases, was good. In the
future the committee would not use any type of additional lighting. This event will be repeated
next January. Profit from the event $186.00.
Buffalo Grove Invitational Art Festival
Chris Gibson and Sandy Greenberg provided a report on the Amdur Productions Jury in
February.
The Arts Commission project for the festival is the rock garden. Linda suggested that we ask
Susan Mann to chair this event since she has the most experience with this project.
The committee wanted to insure that there is a full tent dedicated to the Family Art Tent. Under
this tent would be the rock garden, story hour and any other project planned for the children by
the Arts Commission. Any programs that Amdur Productions would like to feature would be
separate from the Arts Commission projects.
Village's 50th Anniversary Committee Update
Barbara Herman reported on the kick-off event that begins on March 7th. This night features the
50th Anniversary Dinner and then on March 8th & 9th there will be an Open House at Village Hall
from 1:OOPM-4:OOPM.
Note Cards
Laura Ander asked if the Arts Commission could to sell the Note Cards at the BG Singers
concert on March 15th. Linda will check with the Park District and Carol will check with staff to
see if this is possible.
Sculpture
The committee reviewed all the artwork for the proposed sculpture for the Village campus.
Each member got to vote for two submittals. The recommendation then would be sent to the
Village Board for further consideration. The two pieces that were recommended for
consideration were "Education is the Window to the World" by Sharka Glet and "Seven Seven
Seven" by Bruce Niemi. In addition, the committee requested more information on the
submittals by Mitch Levin since there were no dimensions, materials and colorEach member got
