Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band
On April 26th the 7th Annual Spring Concert will be held at Stevenson High School. The
program "Something Funny Happened on the Way to the Band Concert," will
explore humor in music. Admission - $10 in Advance, $12 at the Door, $8 at all times for
seniors and Students with ID. Volunteers for this event are Linda Rosen, Chris Gibson,
Lynne Schneider and Fred Weissman. Sandy Greenberg may be able to assist but
cannot commit at this time.
Jim Kornfeld is the new publicity chairperson for the band. The Band Board bought a
new mailing list and sent postcards advertising the upcoming concert. They also
purchased a mailing list from the Buffalo Grove Area Chamber of Commerce and mailed
letters offering two (2) complimentary tickets to the upcoming concert and asked
businesses to consider sponsorship of the Symphonic Band.
Sandy Greenberg will be joining Bonnie Gold as an Arts Commission representative to
the Band Board meetings. There will be a social event for members at the next rehearsal
on May 1, 2008.
There was great concern over the posters for the concert. The Village wants to confirm
that anyone doing publicity, programs or any advertisement must have all copy approved
by the Office of the Village Manager.
A question was raised on the ability of the Band Board to hold closed meetings. Per the
Office of the Village Manger, all meetings must be open and any information discussed
shall be part of the meeting minutes. Ghida Neukirch will send an email to the Band
Board on this matter.
Limelight Cafe
The next Limelight Cafe will be held on April 25 at eSkape. Five (5) bands have
signed up for this event.
Volunteers for the event include Chris Gibson, Marilyn Alaynick, Sandy Greenberg and
Carol Berman. Fred Weissman will do the sound and lighting. Box Boxer has offered his
assistance with the sound equipment.
Little Limelight /Adult Limelight/Limelight Cafe
Gayle Pervos discussed the concept of the Limelights in regards to participation,
attendance, interest from the community and level of involvement from the Arts
Commission members. It was agreed by the committee to change the format of the
Limelights to:
Little Limelight—One program in the Fall
Limelight Cafe —One program in the spring.
Adult Limelight—Cancel this program
The motion to make this change was made by Marilyn Alaynick and seconded by Bonnie
Gold. The motion was unanimously approved.
Buffalo Grove Invitational Fine Art Festival, July 19 & 20, 2008
Family Art Tent - The Arts Commission project for the festival is the rock garden. Laura
Ander volunteered to chair this project for the commission. In addition, Bookmark Art will
be sponsored by Indian Trails library on Saturday and Vernon Township Library on
Sunday.
The Indeck preview part is scheduled for July 18th. Encore singers will perform.
The Village has secured $500 sponsorships from Allstate and Indeck.
Four (4) youths have signed up for the Youth Art Tent.
The committee discussed the concept of the Bike Valet Program. The committee felt that
they did not want to participate in such a program since it would encourage bikes which
are often walked through the event and also it would require the time of a volunteer to
supervise the program. A motion was made by Gayle Pervos seconded by Sandy
Greenberg, not to include this as part of the art festival. The motion was unanimously
passed.
Marilyn Alaynick volunteered to coordinate with some of the Little Limelight contestants
to perform on the music stage both on Saturday and Sunday.
The Art Festival volunteer meeting is scheduled for June 18th. The committee is
encouraged to try and obtain volunteers for the festival. The Arts Commission meeting
will be held directly after the volunteer meeting.
Village's 50th Anniversary Committee Update
The next event for the 50Th Anniversary celebration is the Open House to be held on
April 27th from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the municipal campus at Lake Cook Road and
Raupp Blvd.
Note Cards
The cards are continuing to be sold at various events. Laura Ander will not be attending
the Symphonic Band concert. There was no other volunteer who was available to sell
cards at this coming event.
Sculpture
The Village Board reviewed the sculpture submittals and decided not to move forward
with this project. The Office of the Village Manager sent letters to all applicants thanking
them for their proposals.
Sandy Greenberg said that she wanted to explore other possibilities and price points for
a piece for the Municipal Campus.
Old Business
No Report.
New Business
The committee discussed the desire for a community center/performing arts center that
could be funded with private funds. This information was shared with the Office of the
Village Manger.
Village Report
Carol Berman informed the committee that no volunteers have come forward for the
Youth Leadership Program. We will continue to advertise and then take the program
under advisement.
Meeting Schedule
The next meeting is scheduled for 5/14/08.
