Welcome
The meeting was called to order at 7:05 PM.
Approval of Minutes
A motion was made to approve the minutes from the 4/09/08 meeting by Barbara Herman and
seconded by Marilyn Alaynick. The motion was unanimously approved.
Chair Report
Linda thanked all those who volunteered for the Symphonic Band concert and the Limelight
Cafe.
Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band
Bonnie Gold was unable to attend the meeting but submitted a written report.
Attendance was up at the 4/25/08 concert and the program seemed well received by those
present. The bake sale brought in $209, door ticket sales were $683 and the members sold
$2,286 worth of tickets.
The band offered a special thank you to Lynne Schneider for doing the programs for the
concert.
The Office of the Village Manager submitted a survey to all band members. Results of the
survey are pending.
The band is currently looking to review and possibly revise their constitution and by-laws. All
changes or additions must be approved by the Office of the Village Manager.
The next concerts are:
7/4/08 Rotary Green
8/3/08 50th Anniversary Joint Concert
Limelight Cafe
Limelight Cafe was held on 4/25/08 at eSkape. Seven (7) groups performed. There were issues
with some attendees who got involved in "mashing." Future events should have additional
security to prevent any issues. This would possibly involve having some of the eSkape security
assist us and also see if we could get a police officer there for the entire program.
Next year there will only be one Limelight Cafe and that will be in the spring. Date to be
determined.
Little Limelight
There will be one Little Limelight program in the fall. Proposed dates are 9/26/08 for the
rehearsal and 10/17/08 for the performance. This is dependent on the availability of Tripp
School.
Buffalo Grove Invitational Fine Art Festival, July 19 & 20, 2008
Family Art Tent- The Arts Commission project for the festival is the rock garden. Laura Ander is
chairing this project for the commission. In addition, Bookmark Art will be sponsored by Indian
Trails Library on Saturday and Vernon Township Library on Sunday.
Once again the committee will attempt to put together welcome bags for the artists. An attempt
to obtain coupons from business to add to the bags was unsuccessful. Barbara Herman will
attempt to get the bags donated. These bags will be filled with a list of local restaurants, Village
map, Community Guide and other small items.
The Preview Party at Indeck is scheduled for 7/17/08. Encore singers will perform. Invitations
will go out to members of the Chamber of Commerce, Arts Commission and artists.
Four (4) youths have signed up for the Youth Art Tent.
Marilyn Alaynick is coordinating some Little Limelight contestants to perform on the music stage
on Saturday from 3:OOPM-4:OOPM. Fred will bring the sound system for the performers. Carol
will get approval from Amdur Productions to use the stage for these young performers.
The Art Festival volunteer meeting is scheduled for 6/18/08.
Village's 50th Anniversary Committee Update
The next event for the 50Th Anniversary celebration is schedule for 6/21/08. The Car Show will
be from 8:OOAM-3:OOPM and the Sock Hop, featuring Dick Biondi, will be from
7:OOPM-10:OOPM.
On 8/3/08, from 2:OOPM-4:OOPM, there will be a Concert featuring the Buffalo Grove Symphonic
Band and the Encore Singers at Stevenson High School. An ice cream social will follow this
event. The Arts Commission will be hosting this event.
Note Cards
The note cards should be sold at all Arts Commission events. Cards will be sold at the
information booth for the Art Festival in addition to the Symphonic Band concerts.
Old Business
Youth Leadership —There appears to be no interest in forming a youth leadership committee as
part of the Arts Commission. It was suggested that we make a final attempt to gain interest at
the Arts Festival having the flyers at the Family Art Tent and the Information Booth.
New Business
Linda requested that all the members would come to the next meeting with ideas on our
mission, what do we feel is the purpose of the Arts Commission and programming ideas.
Village Report
Carol reported on her meeting with Ghida Neukirch concerning the establishment of a
community center/performing arts center. She told of the history of the previous attempt to
establish such as a joint venture with the Buffalo Grove Park District. Ghida contacted Mike
Rylko to see if this was something the Park District would still consider. At this time it is not a
priority for the Park District. There is concern that in this economic climate organizations do not
want to add on additional debit.
If the Arts Commission is interested in moving forward with this idea they would have to do a
business plan that would cover: land cost, cost of construction, funding, management, and all
other aspects of development and operation.
Meeting Schedule
The next meeting is scheduled for 6/18/08. This meeting will be held right after the Art Festival
volunteer meeting.
Adjourn
The meeting concluded at 8:20PM. The motion was made by Fred Weissman and seconded by
Laura Ander. The motion was unanimously approved.
Sincerely,
Carol Berman
