Approval of Minutes
A motion was made to approve the minutes from the 10/15/08 meeting by Fred Weissman and
seconded by Marilyn Alaynick. The motion was unanimously approved.
Chair Report
Linda informed the commission that Lori Lapping recently had surgery but was doing well. She
also mentioned that it was great to see Marilyn Alaynick back and feeling better. She thanked all
who volunteered for the commission events last month — Little Limelight and the Symphonic
Band Concert.
Discussion with Trustee Liaison on Future Goals and Programs for the Arts Commission
Jeff Berman was present at the meeting to discuss the goals and suggestions for future
programming for the Arts Commission. Linda reviewed the type of programs we have sponsored
in the past and felt we were out of new ideas. She question what type of vision the Village Board
had for the commission and if they had any suggestions for programming.
Jeff felt the Village Board looked to the Arts Commission as valuable entity and for the group to
remain viable. Due to the economic issues of the time the Village Board could not promise funds
for programming but always looks to the committee to come up with new initiatives. Some of the
ideas may not become immediate projects but something to be considered in the future.
Jeff indicated that the Village is always looking for new volunteers for various commissions but
often has difficulty getting people to commit. Gayle mentioned that the Village should consider a
Face Book page to encourage younger people to volunteer and also see what type of activities
are going on in their community. She mentioned the impact the internet had on the recent
elections and felt this was a way we could reach younger people. Fred suggested that the
Village tape a program to be shown on Channel 6 with Comcast featuring the various
commissions within the Village and the opportunities available for volunteers.
Linda thanked Jeff for attending the meeting and providing the commission with valuable input
for future discussion.
Buffalo Grove Invitational Fine Art Festival
Carol Berman reported that an agreement had been reached between the Village and Town
Center management for the 2009 Art Festival to be held the weekend of 7/18-7/19.
Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band
The Symphonic Band held another very successful concert on October 26th at Buffalo Grove
High School. There were 234 tickets were sold for the concert and $174 was made from the

Symphonic Band and attend their board meetings.
Little Limelight
The 3rd Annual Little Limelight was held on 10/17/08 at Tripp School. It was an outstanding
event with twenty-six children performing that evening. Special thanks to Long Gove
Confectionary for their donation of chocolate roses for the performers.
A profit of$201 was made that evening.
Limelight Cafe
The only Limelight Cafe performance for the next season is scheduled for 5/01/09 at eSkape.
Note Cards
Laura Ander said that the original concept of Tribute Cards was missing from the current blank
cards we have for sale. She suggested that we should print new cards in the Tribute Card
format with lines on the inside indicating what type of donation is being made. This will be
discussed again at the January meeting when we have a current count on how many cards are
in inventory and available for sale.
Old Business
In her absence Bonnie Gold submitted a written report on "Hearts for the Arts" — a program
geared to younger children. The date selected for the event is 2/7/09 from 10:00-11:30AM and
the location is the Alcott Center. They will be using the multi-purpose room for the main program
(music) and crafts in rooms 7 and 9. Bonnie is waiting to hear from Michelle Hunter, a vocalist,
as to availability and cost. This program will be a joint venture with the Buffalo Grove Park
District. There is no charge to the Arts Commission for the use of this space.
Laura Ander is working with Bonnie on the program. She mentioned they were planning crafts
for younger children ages 3-5 and then other projects for children ages 6-10. The Arts
Commission requested to committee to come back to Village staff on costs for the project,
publicity, and full details for final approval.
New Business
Fred Weissman suggested a possible new program for December 2009 — a Holiday Coral
Invitational. This would consist of various groups within and outside the Village that would sing
holiday songs at local shopping centers and possibly the train station. The cost of this project
would be minimal and add a lift to our holiday celebrations.
Sandy Greenberg said that she will personally call three young women she knows in the Village
and ask them personally to become involved in the Arts Commission. She encourages everyone
to make personal contact to recruit new members.
Village Report
Carol displayed the feature article on the Arts Commission that appeared in the recent issue of
the Village Newsletter. She also showed the commission the brochure on the Professional Art
Collection at Village Hall that is available to any guests.
Meeting Schedule
The next meeting is rescheduled for 01/14/09.
Adjourn
The meeting concluded at 8:15PM. The motion was made by Gayle Pervos and seconded by
Sandy Greenberg. The motion was unanimously approved.
Sincerely,
Carol Berman
