Chair Report Linda welcomed our guests: Stacy Shub and Judith Katz who are interested in becoming involved with the Arts Commission and Mitch and Suzi Levin who were invited to discuss arts in the community. Linda turned over the program to the Levins who discussed the type of art they are involved with and made suggestions on how the committee could support the arts in the community. Mitch submitted an RFP on a proposed piece of sculpture in 2008. Among the many ideas they had for our organization was to solicit sculptures of flowers from various artists. The proceeds from the sale of the flowers would be split between the artists and the Arts Commission. We will discuss some of their ideas at the next meeting. Discussion with Trustee Liaison on Future Goals and Programs for the Arts Commission Jeff Braiman suggested a joint venture with the Citizens with Disabilities Committee featuring art done by the disabled. Wilmette has done a project of this nature which was very successful. It was suggested that we could also get Little City involved in the project. Chris Gibson has volunteered to chair the event. Proposed time of this event would be November 2009. Discussion of Jeff Berman's email of November 20, 2008 was deferred to the next meeting. Buffalo Grove Invitational Fine Art Festival One suggestion for the Family Art Tent is to obtained unfinished tiles and let the children either paint them or use stamp pads. The intention of this project was to allow the children to take the tiles home. It was suggested that we possibly charge the children $1 per tile and donate the money to a children's charity. Laura Ander will chair this project. If we are going to do another food project it was suggested that we could do pretzel logs that the children could dip in chocolate and sprinkles. It was also suggested that we invite Betty Haag Suzuki Strings to perform as part of our 4:00-5:OOPM time slot for the Main Stage. Suggestion was to invite some of the Little Limelight performers to appear one day and the Suzuki Strings on the other day. Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band Future Symphonic Band concerts: Spring 2009 Concert Series March 22nd - 2:OOPM Annual Small Ensemble Concert, Vernon Area Library— Free Admission April 25h - 7:OOPM 8h Annual Formal Spring Concert, Stevenson High School There was no Band Board meeting in February. Little Limelight No report. Limelight Cafe Limelight Cafe is scheduled for 5/01/09 at eSkape. Flyers will be distributed to schools and businesses in the community. Note Cards Laura Ander felt that the original concept of Tribute Cards would be more successful than the blank cards we are currently selling. She suggested that we should see if we can get the remaining cards printed in the Tribute Card format with lines on the inside indicating what type of donation is being made. Old Business Bonnie Gold "Hearts for the Arts" — a program geared to younger children be explored for the spring. Details on this project to follow. New Business A discussion was held on the possibility of starting a Youth Symphony. A follow-up discussion will occur at our next meeting.
