Buffalo Grove Invitational Fine Art Festival The 2010 festival is scheduled for 7/17 & 7/18 which will be a week before the Ann Arbor festival. Village staff has not met with Amy Amdur to review the 2009 festival. The issue of keeping dogs out of the festival was once again discussed. Several of the members went to the Port Clinton Art Festival in Highland Park and liked the idea of the Taste of Highland Park that was held in conjunction with the festival. This may be an idea to explore for one of our future art festivals. Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band The fall 2009 Symphonic Band Concert will be held on November 8t" at Buffalo Grove High School. The theme of this concert is "Fire and Ice." Concert tickets are $10 in advance at the Buffalo Grove Village Hall (check or cash), $12 at the door, $8 at all times for seniors (55+) and students with ID. Carol had requested that all who can to volunteer for this evening since we not only need assistance for the concert but our special project that will be held that evening for handicap artists. Lynne Schneider had volunteered to do the program for the performance. Sponsors will be getting tickets for the performance. Posters should be ready soon and the band has asked the Arts Commission to help with the distribution. They also requested that the Village take over their mailing list and assist with publicity for their programs. A special request was made to see if anyone had any direct contact with the Tribune and Herald to feature the band programs. Currently they are scheduling the holiday concerts. At the October board meeting they will hold election for new officers. A fundraiser is being planned to sell seeds and plants through the website. More details to follow. Little Limelight Little Limelight program is scheduled for October 2nd for the auditions with a performance scheduled for October 16t" at Tripp School. All the schools in the district have been notified and responses have started to come in for the event. Gayle is working with Susan Dubin to do an article on the program. Fred will work with Steve Bulmash and hopefully Brian Lee to provide the electronic equipment needed for the program. Volunteers for the 10/2 audition — Gayle, Linda, Chris, Marilyn, Fred, Lori and Carol. Volunteers for the 10/16 performance — Gayle, Linda, Chris, Marilyn, Barbara, Bonnie, Lori, Fred, and Steve. Carol will ask Long Grove Confectionary if they would donate the chocolate roses. Lynne Schneider had volunteered to do the program for the performance. Limelight Cafe The date of 4/30/2010 has been established for this event at eSkape. Bloomin' Buffalo Grove Sandy Greenberg submitted a written report in her absence. She requested the committee vote on one of two proposed dates for 2010 — 5/15 or 5/22. A motion was made by Barbara Herman to have the event on 5/22. Gayle Pervos seconded the motion. The motion was passed unanimously. Some of the proceeds from the event will be used to support the Buddy Baseball program. It was suggested that the money donated to Buddy Baseball be in the form of a scholarship for enrollment fees. Since the Village cannot issue scholarships it should be done in conjunction with the Rotary or Chamber. Currently Village staff is compiling a list of artists to receive a solicitation letter. This list will be compiled of names from the business cards collected at various art festivals, Illinois Arts Council and possible assistance from the Levins. A letter will be sent in November with a cute follow-up letter after the 1 st of the year. A suggestion was to develop a page on the Village website for this program. Fred volunteered to photograph the pictures for inclusion in the site and any programs we may want to develop. Artists with Disabilities Event The art fair will be held in conjunction with the Fall Symphonic Band concert at Buffalo Grove High School on 11/8. This is a joint venture with the Committee for Residents with Disabilities The art fair will be held from 6:OOPM-7:OOPM, prior to the concert and also at intermission. Marty Sussman (CRD) worked with Buffalo Grove High School on the set-up for the event. There will be no additional charge for tables, etc. Chris will work with the CRD to obtain artists and do publicity. All proceeds from the fair go directly to the artists. New Business Trustee Braiman provided information to the committee on an art initiative that the Whitewater Art Alliance conducted this summer on public art. They program was called "Wheelin' Round Whitewater" and featured plywood bicycles that were designed by a local craftsman and then decorated by local artists. The bicycles were scattered around the community and then were going to be auctioned to the public. After some discussion the committee thought this was an interesting project and something they would like to investigate for a possible 2011 initiative. Thank you Trustee Braiman for sending this idea to the Art Commission for consideration. Village Report None Adjourn The next meeting is scheduled for October 14th. The meeting concluded at 8:05PM. The motion was made by Marilyn Alaynick and seconded by Lori Lapping. The motion was unanimously approved. Sincerely, Carol Berman Staff Liaison cc: Steve Trilling, Trustee Liaison Lisa Stone, Trustee Liaison Ghida Neukirch, Deputy Village Manager
