Approval of Minutes
A motion was made to approve the minutes from the 11/11/09 meeting by Marilyn
Alaynick and seconded by Fred Weissman. The motion was unanimously approved.
Chair Report
Linda wished everyone a Happy New Year. Get well wishes to Lori Lapping who
recently had back surgery. Linda read an article about a mall in St. Louis that was
going bankrupt and converted the mall into an art center. She encouraged everyone to
think about various activities we could do to bring art into our community.
Buffalo Grove Invitational Fine Art Festival
Carol reported that Edgemark, the management company for Town Center, has not
given their permission to hold the Art Festival at their center. Ghida and Amy Amdur,
Amdur Productions, are working on this issue.
Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band
The spring 2010 concert will be held at Stevenson High School on Saturday, April 241h
The theme of this year's concert is 'Blue on Blue" and will consist of pieces that
exemplify "blue," either in style or by theme.
The date for the fall concert has not been established. Sandy Greenberg is
representing the Arts Commission at their board meetings.
Little Limelight
Gayle Pervos mentioned that the program required a lot of time from the commissioners
but there appears to be less interest in performing from the children on the community.
Since not all who audition are accepted the Village has come under some criticism from
the parents of children not accepted for the program. A motion was made by Gayle to
consider canceling this program. Lynne Schneider made a motion to table the
discussion and Bonnie Gold section the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
Limelight Cafe
The date of 4/30/2010 has been established for this event at eSkape. Gayle distributed
flyers and requested that all committee members pass them out in the community.
Bloomin' Buffalo Grove
Sandy Greenberg was not present and there was no report. No date was set for the
next meeting.
Paula Nathan made a donation of a picture and book to the project. Gayle's mother will
be donating a picture, Barbara has two (2) donations coming and Fred and Chris also
have commitments from artists.
Bird House Project
The concept for this project is to have local artists decorate the bird houses and then
sell them at Bloomin' Buffalo Grove. Fran Sachs reported that Hobby Lobby was willing
to sell us 50 bird houses for $2.50 each, half the cost of the normal price. Carol will
receive authorization from Ghida Neukirch to proceed with the purchase.
It was suggested to get the community involved. We should approach local schools
and artists. These houses are not designed to be displayed outdoors but just be
decorative in nature. Artists can "embellish" them as well as paint the houses.
New Business
None
Village Report
Carol passed out the Village of Buffalo Grove's Ethics Statements and Code of
Conduct. She asked that all present read them and come back with any questions they
may have.
The Village Communication Committee, made up of Village staff, is exploring ideas to
enhance the way the Village communicates with the residents. Suggestions were to
think of Facebook and Twitter, along with expanding Channel 6 and the Village
Newsletter. The committee felt that this would promote our programs.
Adjourn
The next meeting is scheduled for 2/10/10.
The meeting concluded at 8.10 PM.
The motion was made by Barbara Herman and seconded by Laura Ander. The motion
was unanimously approved.
Sincerely,
Carol Berman
