Chair Report Linda introduced Keith Sonne and Mike Katz from the BGRA. Mike is the chairperson for the Buddy Baseball Program. Sandy Greenberg introduced the Bloomin' Buffalo Grove program and explained to Mr. Sonne and Mr. Katz that the Arts Commission wanted to share the profits from this program with Buddy Baseball. Currently there are 50 adults/children in the program. Their season begins on May 1St at Miracle Field. Some of the suggestions made by Mr. Katz and Mr. Stone were to support social events of the teams or scholarships for participants who need assistance in paying their registration fees. Mr. Sonne offered to advertise our program on their website. They thanked the Arts Commission for selecting Buddy Baseball as a beneficiary of this event. Buffalo Grove Invitational Fine Art Festival — July 17t" and 18t" The volunteer meeting will be held on June 9th at 6:OOPM. Our regular meeting will be held immediately after this meeting. The Buffalo Grove Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the Celebrate Art party on Thursday, July 15t" at the Indeck Building. Jan Obrand will chair this event for the Chamber. Several local artists were contacted to exhibit that evening. On Friday, July 16t" the BG Jazz Band will perform at Rotary Green. It was suggested that the committee contact Big Sherm's or Jimmy John's, restaurants in the Town Center, to make available for purchase picnic dinners for the exhibitors. The committee wanted to be sure the Amdur Productions makes the exhibitors aware of this event and the availability of the picnic dinners. Family Art Tent — Laura Ander stated that the projects for the Family Art Tent will be "paint a bird house" and string necklaces with fruit loops and red licorice. It was suggested that we place a donation box in the Family Art Tent to help defray the cost of the supplies. A balloon artist, Jason Giolli, has agreed to be part of the Family Art Tent and only work for tips. Laura Ander and Lori Lapping, chairs of this event, will provide a list of needs such as wipes, wash stations, etc. so that Amdur will be aware of their needs. Unique Expressions — There will be ten (10) tables that will be used for handicap artists. This group will be coordinated with the Citizens with Disability Committee. Youth Artists — This program will be repeated this year with ten (10) tables available for youth artists. The committee would also like to continue with the Sunday morning breakfast keeping it light with Danishes, bagels and fruit. Possible locations would be Giordano's, India House or eSkape. The Buffalo Grove Jazz Band will perform on the center stage along with some of the Limelight performers. The committee suggested that in lieu of hats, lanyards, or other items to identify volunteers the committee should explore purchasing new shirts for the volunteers. It was also suggested that we might find a local business to pay for the shirts and have their logo on the back. Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band Bonnie Gold and Sandy Greenberg continue to serve as liaisons from the Arts Commission to the Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band Board meetings which are held every month. The board realizes that the Village will request a survey of the members after the spring concert. It appears that this is not something that is anticipated by the board members. The spring 2010 concert will be held at Stevenson High School on Saturday, April 24t" The theme of this year's concert is 'Blue on Blue" and will consist of pieces that exemplify "blue," either in style or by theme. Lynne Schneider has volunteered to do the introduction at the event. Volunteers for the event are Lynne Schneider, Sandy Greenberg, Fred Weissman, Steve Bulmash, Gayle Pervos, Chris Gibson and Marilyn Alaynick. The committee requested that the band check with Stevenson High School to make sure the side doors to the auditorium are open that evening for use by handicap individuals. The Arts Commission will have volunteers at the doors to accept tickets and hand out programs. Upcoming events include the June 15th performance of the Jazz Band at Willow Stream Park, at the Art Festival and Buffalo Grove Days. In addition, the band will play on July 4th at Rotary Green. The date for the fall concert has not been established Limelight Cafe The date of April 30th has been established for this event at eSkape. Currently there is only one participant signed up to perform. There was a flyer posted for Limelight Cafe at Buffalo Grove High School and we are waiting on approval to put the flyer up at Stevenson High School. These are only informational flyers--all sign-up is now online or by phone to Susie Levy. We will wait until the April AC meeting to determine the status of the project. Little Limelight The committee decided not to hold this event this year due to decreased participation this past event. This event will be reviewed again for the 2011 program year. Bloomin' Buffalo Grove — May 22nd Sandy Greenberg reported on the committee's activities. All of the 60 bird houses have been committed to local artists. We continue to collect pieces from artists to be sold at the event. The most recent was a hand painted antique window by Marla Fry of Valparaiso, Indiana. Cookies, suckers and other items that fall within the theme will be sold at the event. Three baskets filled with items related to flowers, plants, etc. will be raffled that day. The event will be held in the Council Chambers of Village Hall from 1:OOPM-4:OOPM. The committee is working on publicity which will include print media, Channel 6, website posting, Village Newsletter and posters. In addition, we will announce the event at the Symphonic Band performance. The committee decided that they wanted the portion of the profits that were to go to the Buddy Baseball program earmarked for scholarships for those participants whose families had difficulty paying the registration fee.
