Approval of Minutes
A motion was made to approve the minutes from the March 10th meeting, as modified
by Gayle Pervos, by Barbara Herman and seconded by Marilyn Alaynick. The minutes,
as posted on the Village Website, are correct. The motion was unanimously approved.
Chair Report
Linda spoke about all the upcoming activities we have within the next six weeks — first
the Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band Concert, Limelight Cafe and Bloomin' Buffalo
Grove.
Buffalo Grove Invitational Fine Art Festival — July 17t" and 18t"
The volunteer meeting will be held on June 9th at 6:OOPM. Our regular meeting will be held
immediately after this meeting.
Carol Berman recapped the current progress of the festival.
The Buffalo Grove Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the Celebrate Art party
on Thursday, July 15t" at the Indeck Building.
On Friday, July 16t" the BG Jazz Band will perform at Rotary Green.
Family Art Tent — Laura Ander stated that the projects for the Family Art Tent will
be "paint a bird house" and string necklaces with fruit loops and red licorice. A
balloon artist, Jason Giolli, has agreed to be part of the Family Art Tent and only
work for tips. Laura Ander and Lori Lapping will chair this event.
Unique Expressions — There will be ten (10) tables that will be used for handicap
artists. Currently only one artists has signed up for this program.
Youth Artists — This program will be repeated this year with ten (10) tables
available for youth artists.
Sunday Breakfast — This event will take place at India House. The Village is
currently looking for donations from the community for breakfast items.
Entertainment — Limelight performers will be asked to perform on Saturday.
Art Festival Office —The new location will be 178 McHenry Rd.
Shirts - The committee felt that it would be wonderful to have T shirts this year to
identify volunteers for the festival. If the Village could get a Silver Buffalo
Sponsor ($1,000 minimum donation) their donation would pay for the shirts and
their company name/logo could be put on the back of the shirts acknowledging
their donation.
A concern for the committee is that the Village does not have any sponsors for the Art
Festival. Carol recapped the benefits of sponsorship and encouraged all to solicit
businesses from Buffalo Grove and surrounding communities.
Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band
Bonnie Gold and Sandy Greenberg reported on the Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band
Board meeting. The spring 2010 concert will be held at Stevenson High School on
Saturday, April 24t". The theme of this year's concert is 'Blue on Blue" and will consist
of pieces that exemplify "blue," either in style or by theme. Lynne Schneider has
volunteered to do the introduction at the event. Steve Trilling, one of our Trustee
Liaisons, will be narrating the concert. Volunteers for the event are Lynne Schneider,
Sandy Greenberg, Fred Weissman, Steve Bulmash, Gayle Pervos and Chris Gibson.
Upcoming events include the June 15th performance of the Jazz Band at Willow Stream
Park, July 4th at Rotary Green, Fine Art Festival and Buffalo Grove Days.
The date for the fall concert is set for November 7t" at Buffalo Grove High School. The
theme for this concert if fantasy, myths and heroes. The spring 2011 concert will
feature Wayne and Kathy Messmer.
Limelight Cafe
The date is April 30th at eSkape. Currently we have a full schedule with students from
Buffalo Grove and Stevenson High Schools plus a group from Palatine.
Volunteers for the event are Gayle Pervos, Fred Weissman, Sandy Greenberg, Fran
Sachs, Barbara Herman and Carol Berman. All volunteers should be there at 6:OOPM.
Bloomin' Buffalo Grove — May 22nd
Sandy Greenberg reported on the committee's activities. Donations of art are still
coming in for the event. In the last week some of the beautifully decorated bird houses
have been returned to the Village. All bird houses should be returned no later than May
3d
The event will be held in the Council Chambers of Village Hall from 1:OOPM-4:OOPM.
The committee is working on publicity which will include print media, Channel 6, website
posting, Village Newsletter and posters. Sandy will have some of the bird houses and
flyers on display at the Symphonic Band performance. Lynne suggested that we place
bird houses on the dais at each of the next three Village Board meetings before the
event. Our trustee liaisons can make the announcement which will enhance our
publicity.
The committee decided that they wanted the portion of the profits that were to go to the
Buddy Baseball program earmarked for scholarships for those participants whose
families had difficulty paying the registration fee. The portion that will be staying with
the Arts Commission shall be earmarked for a special arts program for young children
or possible purchase of a sculpture. Discussion on these programs to follow at the next
meeting.
All the commission members volunteered to work this event. Set up is on Friday night
at 4:OOPM and Saturday at 11:OOAM.

Village Report
Trustee Trilling reported that at the last Finance Committee meeting there was a
discussion about the establishment of a performing art center. A village resident, Marty
Sussman, brought forth the idea to the Village Board. This would be a multipurpose
facility serving all the community. A committee will be formed to explore this
suggestion.
Adjourn
The next meeting is scheduled for May 12th.
The meeting concluded at 8.00 PM.
The motion was made by Marilyn Alaynick and seconded by Laura Ander. The motion
was unanimously approved.
Sincerely,
Carol Berman
