Susan Mann, a former Arts Commissioner, has a daughter who is suffering from MS and requires a bone marrow transplant. An email went out to all of Susan's friends and associates requesting donations. Linda urged all who could to donate. Bonnie Gold also spoke on the need to raise funds for this procedure which is not covered by insurance. Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band This fall's concert, scheduled for November 7th at Buffalo Grove High School, will celebrate music that depicts some of the Heroes, Myths & Legends that we all have grown up with and love. Volunteers for the evening are Lynne, Steve, Fred, Marilyn, Chris, Laura, Barbara and Carol. The spring concert is scheduled for April gth at Stevenson High School. Wayne Messmer and his wife will be the featured artists. Howard is looking to do a special concert on Sunday, September 11, 2011. Wayne Messmer will be part of this program. The Symphonic band is looking for a site to hold this concert. Chris Gibson had volunteered to serve on the committee that Alan Nudelman wanted to develop representing members of the band, Arts Commission, Village, band directors of the community schools, school administrators, representative from the Chamber of Commerce, etc. To-date Chris has not heard about any meetings. Lynne Schneider asked that we inform the band that their sponsorships of the "Shout Outs" be submitted earlier for the program. The band has asked, and received, permission to purchase a trailer for the amount of $2,000 to carry their equipment. It was suggested the trailer be housed in the Police Department parking area which is secured, Buffalo Grove Invitational Fine Art Festival Carol reported that she and Ghida Neukirch had not met with Amy Amdur on next year's fest. This should be scheduled in the coming month. Limelight Cafe Gayle will not be able to chair this event in the spring. She asked that we find a volunteer to take her place. This would include selecting a date, making arrangements with eSkape, developing the flyer and get volunteers to work the date. Steve Bulmash said he would help if he could get a co-chair. There were no volunteers. Without someone to chair this event it was decided that it should be canceled for 2011. Little Limelight The Village received a number of calls and emails wanting to know if there was going to be a Little Limelight this year. It was previously decided to cancel this event for 2010 but we may want to revisit this program in 2011. New Business 2011 Public Art Display Linda requested that the committee members bring ideas forth for a public art program that can be done in 2011. Information was obtained from the Palatine Chamber of Commerce on the Adirondack chairs. The chairs were purchase at Home Depot for $29 and were sold to various organizations for $250. They had to be primed and sealed before they could be decorated. The purchaser could select an artist or the Chamber would help find one. The chairs were displayed through out the community and then auctioned with 80% of the profit to the charity (selected by the person who sponsored the chair) and 20% to the Chamber. Other suggestions that came from the committee — Mailboxes throughout the community, recycle bins, fire hydrants, water barrels, and rocking chairs. Linda had asked that all committee members research ideas and come back to the November meeting with more details. Fran said that she and Sandy would go to the "big box" stores to get some ideas. Old Business Artists Evening, Sharon Borstein discussed her idea of having an Artists Evening where we would invite local artists to display their work. This could be held at a local business. Carol mentioned that the new PrimeSource space might be an ideal location, Pop Up Galleries Linda had originally proposed the concept, and Sharon had expanded on the idea, of having gallery space in vacant buildings. This could be done in local retail centers that currently have unoccupied space. This could be in the form of a formal gallery or art work in the windows of the vacant spaces. Volunteers Fran Sachs said that she would discuss the idea of how we get younger volunteers on the commission. Carol is going to send a letter or email to each of the people who are listed in the Talent Bank, requesting the Arts Commission as their first choice, to see if they are still interested in becoming part of the commission. Village Report Carol reminded the committee of the community reception that will be held on Monday, October 28t" for Dean Bragg, the new Village Manager. Commission members and community leaders are invited to this event which will be held between 6:OOPM-7:OOPM. The benches along Church Road will be painted by the Public Works Department.
