Approval of Minutes
A motion was made to approve the minutes from the October 6, 2010 meeting by
Barbara Herman and seconded by Marilyn Alaynick. The motion was unanimously
approved.
Chair Report
Linda welcomed our two (2) new guests — Kari Freeman and Mark Andrews, residents
who completed Talent Bank applications to serve on the Arts Commission.
Linda also congratulated the Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band on the recent concert. She
felt it was a very professional and mature sound. The concert was well attended and
the recently remodeled theater was a very nice venue. It was her suggestion to move
the ticket table to across the room so that there would not be congestion around the
theatre door. Another suggestion was to have those who are taking the tickets to allow
any late arrivals to enter the theatre only between musical numbers. She also thanked
all the Arts Commissioners who volunteered for this event.
Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band
The spring concert is scheduled for April gthat Stevenson High School. Wayne Messmer
and his wife will be the featured artists.
Howard is looking to do a special concert on Sunday, September 11, 2011. Wayne
Messmer will be part of this program. The Symphonic band is looking for a site to hold
this concert.
Buffalo Grove Invitational Fine Art Festival
Carol reported that she and Ghida Neukirch will meet with Amy Amdur on Friday,

2011 Public Art Display
After much discussion it was decided to do fiberglass bird baths that will be decorated
and displayed throughout the community. This idea was brought to us by Lynne
Schneider who provided information from the Lisle Chamber of Commerce which used
bird baths as a public art program a few years ago. Sandy Greenberg and Fran Sachs
will co-chair this committee. Marilyn Alaynick and Barbara Herman volunteered to
assist. The committee will present more details on this project at the next meeting.
2012 Public Art Display
The committee is proposing to do a bicycle themed project for 2012. The initial
suggestion for this project came from Trustee Trilling. This would be in
conjunction with the newly formed Bicycle Path System Ad-Hoc Committee. The
concept is two fold: obtaining old bicycles which would be donated from the community
(also a green project) and then giving them to artists to decorate and display through
the Village; and also work with the Bicycle Path Committee to establish signs along our
bike paths that would provided some directional information. These signs would be
done by artists and sponsored by businesses/organizations. Outside of the installation
of the signs there would be no cost to the Village for either of these projects.
Other
The Commissioners thought they would like to explore the idea of having local artists do
the banners that are normally supplied by the Village on our light posts, hang on Village
Hall, etc.

Artists League
Sharon Borstein is proposing the formation of a Buffalo Grove Artists League. This
would entail artists from Buffalo Grove and the surrounding community. She is
developing an article for the January/February issue of the Village News and will
schedule a meeting sometime in January. Sharon will ask Fred Weissman to assist
with this committee and Kari Freeman has also volunteered to help.
Village Report
No Report.
Adjourn
The next meeting is scheduled for January 12, 2011.
The motion to adjourn was made by Marilyn Alaynick and seconded by Lori Lapping.
The motion was unanimously approved. Meeting adjourned at 8.20PM
Sincerely,
Carol Berman
