held early and pizza and salad were served.
Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band
th
The spring concert is scheduled for April 20 at Stevenson High School. Buffalo Grove High
School gave us a date of November 3, 2013 for the fall concert. Chris Gibson, Steve Bulmash,
Shari Ginsberg, Fred Weismann, Mark Andrews and Lynne Schneider volunteered to work the
concert. All volunteers are requested to be at Stevenson High School between 6:00- 6:15pm.
Artists' League.
nd
The April 22 meeting will be held in the EOC at 7:OOPM. The guest speaker will be Larry
Goldberg who will discuss how to establish a business plan for the members.
Sharon stated that the members were discussing doing some off site meeting such as going to
the Botanic Gardens to paint, take photos, etc.
Art Festival
Carol reported that the Village Board approved the contract with Amdur Productions for
2013-2014.
Various items were discussed concerning the festival:
Friday night the Buffalo Grove Jazz Band will perform at Rotary Green. The commission
would like to offer the Artists' League an opportunity to feature their art. Chris Gibson has
a 10' x 30' tent that she will loan us but we need someone to pick it up, erect it and take
down. Carol will check with Amdur Productions to see if they have any concerns over
conflict with the festival artists.
This year the volunteers should wear the customary red shirts and we will order lanyards in
red.
Family Art Tent-Once again Sanders Court Pediatrics has volunteered to sponsor this event
with a $500 donation. There are two projects planned for this year— planting pumpkin
seeds in a cup and to decorate a Family Art Tent banner that will be used for the tent in
2014. Sharon Borstein said that the best type of banner that the kids could draw on with
paint, markers, etc. was banner cloth. Carol will see if our village sign shop has this type of
material.
Volunteers are needed. An article will be in the coming Village News. It was suggested that
we contact the director of student services for Buffalo Grove and Stevenson high schools
looking for volunteers. Sharon will contact the Artists' League members.
There was some discussion at previous meetings about having and outside wine event
where people could purchase wine while walking through the festival. Carol checked with
our village attorney and found that this could not be done.
A Taste of Buffalo Grove was suggested and the committee decided they did not want to
move forward with this program. They felt it was more important that we support the
restaurants in Town Center rather than bringing in other vendors.
We need better signage for the first aid station.
It was also decided not to bring in entertainment as we have done in the past, ie. Little
Limelight performers, Suzuki Strings, etc.
The commission members have to work on obtaining donations of water, bananas, and
granola bars. The commission liked the idea of what was done at the end of last year's
show. A few members went around delivering water, bananas and granola bars to the
artists and thanked them for their participation. Possibly we can get a donation from
Buffalo Grove Bank and Trust of plastic bags for this use and include a thank you note from
the commission.
th
June 5 was the date selected for the volunteer meeting. The Arts Commission will have
their monthly meeting immediately following.
The committee confirmed that they wanted to do the same type of breakfast for the artists
that they did last year— provide bagels, muffins/Danish, and yogurt to the artists in the Art
Festival office.
Commission for Residents with Disabilities—They will, once again, be in charge of the
Unique Expressions portion of the festival on Saturday. Mark Weiner of the CRD is in charge
of this program. The CRD requested that we continue with the 4 person golf cart. Carol will
see if Arthur J. Rogers and Co. will again sponsor this event. The committee made
suggestions on how we can better advertise this feature and mark the shuttle stops.
Youth Artists—Currently we have four applications from youth artists.
Senior Walk—The commission will work with Amdur to have this special event on Sunday
morning between 9:00-10:OOAM, before the official show opens, for seniors and people
with disabilities. Chris Gibson volunteered to work with the CRD and local senior facilities to
support this program.
