Welcome
The meeting was called to order at 7:OOPM.
Approval of Minutes
A motion was made to approve the minutes of the August 7, 2013, meeting by Barbara Herman
and seconded by Fran Sachs. The motion was unanimously approved.
Chair Report
Linda introduced Leisa Niemotka our new Staff Liaison and welcomed her to the Arts
Commission.
Art Festival
Leisa provided an overview to the commission on the August 27, 2013, meeting with Amy
Amdur and her assistant Lindsey to review the 2013 festival. Highlights of the meeting
included:
- Amy agreed it was an oversight that she did not inform Carol Berman that she was
leaving on a vacation the first day of the festival. Next time if she is gone a lead
person would be appointed and the staff liaison will have the contact information.
- Promotion material said 140-160 artists but there were only 111. Amy stated with
the economic downturn many of her festivals have fewer artists than previous years.
She agreed that the press releases should have been modified to reflect this change
in the number of artists.
- Of the 111 artists 46 were jewelers. Most of the festivals have more jewelry and it
sells in Buffalo Grove. Amdur staff and the Arts Commission will work together to
brainstorm ways to attract more diverse artists.
- No dogs will be allowed at the festival next year. This information will be in all
Amdur promotional material and village publications.
- Amdur will have a better handle on the cleanliness of the site.
- Village staff will coordinate a follow-up meeting with Amdur Productions in October
to review improvements to the 2014 festival.
Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band
The fall concert "Lucky 13" will be held on November 3, 2013, at Buffalo Grove High School.
Volunteers for this concert are Chris, Linda, Laura, Gayle, Lynne and Carol. There is a possibility
that Sharon and Barbara will also assist. Lynne will continue to do the program.
Christmas concert dates are December 8th, December 15th and December 19th. Locations to be
determined.
The last raise Howard Green had was in 2009. Laura Ander made a motion to raise his
compensation from $5,500 t0 $6,000 in four equal installments of$1,500 paid quarterly.
The motion was seconded by Barbara Herman and passed unanimously.
Artists' League.
Meetings will now be held at the Youth Center. The meeting schedule for the year are October
5t, November 19th and December 16th
21 . In 2014 they will be held on the third Monday of each
month.
The winter show will be held in February 2014 at the Indian Trails Library. The show is now
closed to any additional artists.
Old Business
Great Big Little Art Show—Sharon would like to proceed with this program if she can get more
volunteers to assist. Several commissioners said they would help so the program is moving
forward. The show would be held in November of 2014 or January/February of 2015. The ideal
location would be the new Performing Arts Center. Carol will talk to Dan Schimmel to see if the
BGPD will allow the commission to use the facility for this program. It was also suggested that
we share the proceeds with the facility.
New Business
Carol reported that the Local Artists Network will have a symposium in Springfield on Thursday,
th
October 17 for local art agencies. Sharon Borstein is planning to attend and Chris Gibson may
also go. This event that is sponsored by the Illinois Arts Council and the Arts Illinois Alliance.
Village Report
No report.

A motion to adjourn was made by Fran Sachs and seconded by Steve Bulmash. The motion was
unanimously approved.
The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 13th. There will be no December
meeting. Meeting adjourned at 8:25 PM
Sincerely,
Carol Berman
